    Matthews B756040 reviews

C-Stand Grip Head Kit (Black, 10.5') is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 127.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Horrible paint job Straight out the package, someone at the factory had slid the top section in while the paint was half dry so it looks really blotchy (showed Matthews the pictures but they didn't offer to replace it...I would have). The paint scrapes off pretty quickly when you screw in the knobs and attach lights to it. The black paint is also thick enough that the 5/8 arm is no longer 5/8 so you can't attach a light to the end of the arm. Matthews really needs to look at a black chroming process. Look at Avenger if it truly is made of black steel. As it is, you might as well get it in chrome and spray paint it flat black or gaffer tape it if you want to avoid lens flare...I'd recommended you get the chrome version instead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must-have for any grip kit Matthews is the standard bearer for grip and lighting control equipment and these stands are one of the main reasons why. The riser clamps and head clamps are some of the strongest I've ever used and you can rest assured any attached equipment will stay in place. All moving parts move smoothly and all connection points are strong. The stands are heavy, easy to use and will probably last a lifetime. The only issue I have with them is that these newer stands seem to have a slightly different design for the fold-up legs that doesn't work quite as smoothly as older models. This may simply be due to the fact that I've not used them enough to break them in yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Indispensible Add the Matthews 6 PIN w/COLLAR - MAP6C to this item and you've got a sturdy, highly versatile light stand that allows you to place your light in just about any position imagineable. Discovered this via Joe McNally recommendation and am only sorry I did not know of it when I initially bought my strobes and their accompanying light stands. Also, take care to weight the stand(sand bags or something) when using the arm in any sort of boom configuration.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A very nice stand - solid I use it in my studio to mount the B1 Profoto head with reflectors, softbox etc...It is well built and heavy duty. Like the arm and grip - not lightweight but exactly what I need. It does not come with any pin w/collar. If you don't have one make sure to add one to your order otherwise you won't be able to use it. I recommend the Matthews 6 pin w/collar. Make sure you have weight too (sand bag or the like) and something at the end of the arm (opposite to the light) that is RED to avoid accident.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Matthews Provides Big Bang for your Buck I have worked with a few different C-stands in my time but Matthews seem to be the best all-around stands. This particular Matthews C-stand is really the best bang for the buck. The kit comes with everything a good C-stand should have and more: A double riser which rises up to ten and a half feet, a grip head, and a 40 arm AND a sliding leg for when you are on steps or the side of a hill. I really like the black color! Now I don't have to put black gaff tape on it if there is a reflection in a window, etc. It is very durable...built to last. Granted, it isn't the top-of-the-line C-stand with spring loaded legs but its everything most productions would need out of a good quality C-stand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from May the Grip be with You I use the stand to hold all kinds of stuff during photo shoots, besides just lights. I bought the black ones because they're less distracting than the chrome ones. Yes, they get visible scratches on them, but I don't really care. If anything, the scratch data shows you how much you use your stands and how well you take care of them. Next to food and water, these stands are on my short list of very valuable things. They're the best stands out there because of how well they're made and how well they simply do their job, which adds up to helping you be efficient with your time and enable you to create the best work you can.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this thing! Sliding leg is awesome. You probably dont think you'll need to, but watch a youtube video about how to open and close a sliding leg century stand. There is a strategy to make it very easy and trouble free. The base does not readily come off, like the turtle based models do, so it wont fit in some century stand cases. Barely fits door to door in the back seat of my Hyundai Elantra. Will not fit in the trunk of my Hyundai at all. Any inconvenience and awkwardness in transporting and storing is well worth the functionality though. These things are epic. The reflector holder also makes a good swivel to get the light lower than it otherwise could with the stand risers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just when I needed it most! Several weeks ago I purchased the C Stand for my new studio space. The intention was to use it strictly in studio for portrait work. The week it arrived I had a commercial location shoot and decided last minute to bring the C Stand along, just in case. The C Stand was a stand out for the location shoot. The boom arm got my lighting where I needed it without an assistant booming the light in. The weight, the stability, and portability makes the C Stand my new favorite light stand by far. I will be getting a second one soon for my studio and location work! I have zero complaints about this product!
