Multiply your lens' focal length by 1.7x with the Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-17E II for F mount lenses. This teleconverter will maintain full metering and focusing with compatible cameras and lenses, and will also support the VR function found on many current lenses. This teleconverter also has Nikon's Integrated Coating to limit flaring and ghosting that may occur.

Many such teleconverters can also have a detrimental effect on the speed of the lens, however the AF-S Teleconverter TC-17E II makes only accounts for 1.5 stops of light loss.

Features
  • 1.7x teleconverter extends the reach of AF-S lenses by 70% with only a one-and-a-half-stop loss in exposure.
  • Advanced design maintains the optical quality of NIKKOR lenses as well as fully supports exposure metering and VR image stabilization capabilities.
  • Nikon F lens mount supports both FX and DX format AF-S NIKKOR lenses.

    AF-S Teleconverter TC-17E II is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 222.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works with caveats The teleconverter works well in that it only slightly reduces AF speed and gives me back some of the reach I was missing by going full-frame. It is also much cheaper than a lens with equivalent focal length (though spendier than I believe it should be). Image quality is acceptable with the 70-200 2.8 on a D3. With that specific lens, images look a lot sharper when stopped down to 5.6, zoomed to something less than full telephoto, and focused on something less than infinity. In a worst case scenario (wide open at 4.8, zoomed to 340mm, focused to infinity) there is obvious softness and fringing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nikon TC-17E II I've read good and bad reviews for this product from various web sites and professional publications over the past 2 years. I always do a lot of research on the products i buy before pulling the trigger. Working with both Nikon D80's and Nikon D800's the TC 17E lived up to my expectaions when shooting the Nikon 70mm-200mm 2.8 and the 200mm-400mm 2.8 lenses. I found no loss in photo quality shooting any combination of camera, TC-17E and lens. If you can adjust ISO, shutter speed and aperture, hold your camera steady and use the VR settings, you're going to get wonderful photos. Take care of your equipment and it should work great for years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excelent product to give you more reach I primarily bought this for bird photography to extend the reach of my Nikon 2.8 70-200 VR1 lens. It works well with the lens and so far I have been able to get some great shots with this combination. Photos tend to be a little soft if I zoom all the way to 340 and stop down to the lowest f stop but I am able to get beautiful detailed bird photos if I'm not at either of these ends. Although you loose 1 1/2 stops using the teleconverter this was the perfect solution for me as it was must more cost effective than getting a larger lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have, when you need to get closer This is a great teleconverter when you need it. Built solid. when used on a 300mm f/2.8 VR. It can be hand held with not much difficulty for them long shots. This time of year for us in Alaska the sun does not rise to high on the horizon so having alot of light can be difficult. I mostly have been using Nikons 1.4E ll TC, shooting at f/4, when I used the 1.7 I was amazed at the focus speed at f4.8 for not having good light. Picture quality of the photos are great hand held and tripod mounted are excellent. Definitely should have bought this a long time ago. Jim

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Welcome Accessory for Wildlife Photogr Shortly after purchasing a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VRii zoom, I decided I wanted to get a bit closer to the eagles I was photographing, without the extra weight and expense of a larger primary or zoom. The 70-200mm takes superb pictures, and I wanted to keep that quality. The TC-17E II was just what I expected, producing superb clear shots in conjunction with the zoom. I was able to shoot on two occasions in dim light at distances of several hundred feet, with clarity that I didn't anticipate. The f-stop dropped from 2.8 to 4.8 and even 4.0, giving great shots in low light. I chose the 1.7x over the 1.4x for its extra power, and instead of the 2.0x since I didn't want the 2 stop light loss. Hundreds of shots later, I am still very pleased with this converter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeds Expectations I use this with my 70-200 F4 Nikkor on a D800. It seems sharp at all zoom levels. I usually expose at f:8-16 I have made a couple of 13x19 prints and posted a few shots on the web as JPEGS and the images are indistinguishable from those made with any version of a 300. The number of times I need 400mm compared to 340mm is negligible. Carrying this extender with the 70-200 beats carrying the 80-400 or the 200-400 by a mile - although in theory those lenses should be sharper and have more detail than the 70-20 plus extender. If you travel...this is very handy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NikonT II 1.7X Great Addition to My Bag The Nikon TCII 1.7 teleconverter was a great addition to my camera bag on a recent trip to Fl. Used extentsively for close ups of birds as well as Space Shuttle launch. I used the teleconverter in conjuntion with Nikon 300mm F4 lens. Auto-focus worked well in moderate sunlight but auto focus slower as sun sets. Did not really consider that a problem at all, a chance to practice manual focus. Great pics that would not have been possible without the teleconverter. Some would say a bit pricey but well worth the mnoney considering the cost of the alternatives. Money well spent in my opinion, highly recommend this as an alternative to Nikon 500/600mm lens for the serious amateur.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid teleconverter I bought this teleconverter to use with my 70-200 VRII lens for wildlife photography. The combination works quite well, although there is some softness introduced by the converter. The converter is both physically small and lightweight, making it easy to carry around in the field. As an added bonus, the image metadata created with each picture includes compensation for the converter - for example, with the lens set to 200mm, the image metadata will indicate a focal length of 340mm. I wasn't expecting that. I would definitely recommend this teleconverter for anyone looking for that extra reach from their lens.
