The Pelican 1550 Protector Case with Pick and Pluck Foam Insert is virtually unbreakable as well as air and watertight. Resistant to chemicals, corrosion, and dust, it protects your sensitive equipment from the elements. Made from ultrahigh impact structural copolymer for strength and durability, it has a 0.25" neoprene O-ring to ensure your contents stay dry. The easy-open double-throw latches keep the case securely closed until you open it, and the automatic pressure equalization valve allows the case to be easily opened after changes in air pressure. The case has an oversized rubber handle for comfortable carrying.

Does this come with secure placements for a DSLR camera?
I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but it comes with foam that is precut into different pieces that can be removed, and so you can make a nearly perfect fit for any camera and lens set you might have. The foam seems real sturdy, so the camera will be secured within a foam encase meant. Good luck.

Can you fly with this case as a carry on? It looks an inch too wide but I wonder if airlines care.
Its larger than the accepted standard for carry-on roller bags in the US. You'll run a very high risk of having it gate-checked. You're safer using the Pelican 1510. I've carried it on countless domestic flights.
