The Procaster Broadcast-Quality Dynamic Microphone from Rode is designed for capturing speech in broadcast radio, voice-over recording, podcasts, and similar applications. It features a tight cardioid polar pattern and tailored frequency response that result in optimum speech reproduction without off-axis noise. The all-metal construction, internal pop-filter, and internal shockmount further minimize handling noise and contribute to the microphone's durability. The package includes a microphone stand mount and a zip pouch.
This microphone is part of the B&H Virtual Mic Locker, an online tool to help our valued customers determine the sonic differences between popular microphones for podcasting and voice over work. Each microphone was recorded using a Grace Design M103 preamp into a Presonus Quantum 2626 interface.

No, the Rode Procaster does not include a shock mount. However, the RM2 stand mount is included. Rode's PSM1 Shockmount (B&H # ROPSM1) is available separately.

How close do you have to be to the mic when recording vocals?

The manual says 2 inches or less. I agree -- voices are awesome at that distance and background sounds minimized or eliminated.

The Procaster ships with a standard stand mount. Shock mounts are not included with this kit.

Will I need a cloudlifter to get good sound out of this mic? I was planning on using it with a Focusrite Scarlette Solo.

I use the Procaster with my H4n Pro recorder for podcasts and voiceover work, and, for me, no preamp is needed. I speak relatively softly, so I have the mike level set fairly high on the H4n Pro -- 85-90 (out of 100), and that regularly hits -12 on the meters, which sounds perfect. I LOVE this microphone!

The Procaster has a distinct tone that is in my opinion professional broadcast quality. If that is the tone you are going for then yes. Of course a mixer and post can reasonably adjust for most desired tone. It's an awesome microphone!

The Procaster is an excellent mic. and the internal pop-filter seems to function extremely well. However, I purchased an Auray PFN-6 which I use with my some of my other microphones.
