How close do you have to be to the mic when recording vocals?
The manual says 2 inches or less. I agree -- voices are awesome at that distance and background sounds minimized or eliminated.

Will I need a cloudlifter to get good sound out of this mic? I was planning on using it with a Focusrite Scarlette Solo.
I use the Procaster with my H4n Pro recorder for podcasts and voiceover work, and, for me, no preamp is needed. I speak relatively softly, so I have the mike level set fairly high on the H4n Pro -- 85-90 (out of 100), and that regularly hits -12 on the meters, which sounds perfect. I LOVE this microphone!

Can I use this mic to record vocals for music? Im curious.
Absolutely! Large diaphragm dynamics require a bit of gain, so you might want to use a mixer or a gain booster of some sort. But these types of microphones work great with aggressive vocals, especially rock vocals. The key is to remember that every microphone sounds different on every source. But I've used this in my studio on a lot of different sources, including song vocals.

The Procaster is an excellent mic. and the internal pop-filter seems to function extremely well. However, I purchased an Auray PFN-6 which I use with my some of my other microphones.
