Rode NTG2 overview

  • 1Description

This Rode NTG2 shotgun microphone kit is available exclusively through B&H. The kit consists of the Rode NTG2 shotgun microphone, shockmount and XLR to 1/8" mini cable/transformer for connecting to mini inputs on consumer video gear, portable recorders, etc.

The Rode NTG2 is a condenser shotgun microphone designed for professional audio capturing in the field or indoors. With a history of manufacturing quality studio microphones, Rode has implemented low noise output electronics and wide bandwidth, both of which attribute to the NTG2's broadcast sound quality.

The super-cardioid polar pattern and line plus gradient acoustic principle effectively minimize audio and noise at the off-axis (sides) of the microphone, while the front of the capsule accurately reproduces incoming audio signal. The result is greater intelligibility and signal-to-noise ratio when using the NTG2 in noisy environments. The NTG2 is powered with an internal 1.5V AA size battery or an external +48 Volt phantom power source, the output is a standard 3-pin XLR male connector. The microphone features a rugged, all metal, lightweight enclosure that is ideal for camera mounting yet durable enough to withstand the rigors of heavy road use. The Rode NTG2 is packaged with a microphone stand mount and windscreen.

Rode NTG2 reviews

NTG2 Condenser Shotgun Microphone Kit is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Australian Quality; Industry Performance PROS: After purchasing several Rode mics, I can say that the construction quality of all their units is extremely high, and the preformance is consistently good. Other positive attributes are the price and the fact that the mic does not need phantom (preamp) power when the internal battery is used. This is nice when using it with small hand-held recorders. Overall, I found it ideal for on-camera video, voice-over, and overhead boom for dialogue. Also, the company is very accessible and stands behind it products like IRON! ADVICE: You will definitely need a better dead cat than the one that comes with the unit. This mic is quite sensitive for a Super-Cardiod, and picks up the slightest air movement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Microphone I use this microphone for many things; mostly broadcasting for a small news agency and film production. However I also produce and record music on the side. This microphone has never disappointed me. It is fantastic in all recording. It is very versitile in this kit as it can be used with a boom pole. Stop your consideration and order this one. You won't regret it. One thing to remember though is that if you film with a DSLR then you will need a pre-amp such as the juicedlink box. Without one, filming on a DSLR with this mic will yield a thin and wimpy sound. If you use a camcorder you should be fine without one, although it never hurts to have one handy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Amazing Microphone This is a really awesome microphone I ordered to go with my Canon Rebel T2i. It has AMAZING sound quality and looks really professional. This microphone will make everyone's head turn. The only problem is that you will very likely need to buy a sound recorder or a camera that can change audio levels because quality is lost when the audio is recorded directly into the camera. I would also recommend getting a secondary shock mount because the plastic knob to attach to a hot-shoe wore out the first day I used it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exellent cost/benefit ratio Used it with Sony HDR FX-1 whose main drawback is the sound and the lack of xlr phantom power input. With NTG-2 my Sony leaps from prosumer to pro. Also looks good, especially with a windshields like dead cat or WS6

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Multi-purpose Mike I purchased this mike package to work with my Canon HV-30 but the supplied shockmount is too big for the Hot-shoe. Other than that..the sound quality is great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Erik I bought the Rode NTG-2 shotgun mic for my Canon T3i and it works beautifully. One slight problem that I noticed is that the mic records a lot of dead/static noise but this could be countered by adjusting the recording level within the camera. The universal shock mount fits very nicely in the flash mount on the camera. The cable that comes with the mic isn't as long as I'd like it to be. I will definitely have to get a much longer one if I get a boom pole for it. Other than that the mic preforms as advertised and I'm very pleased with it so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Microphone Great mic. Have it with my HMC-40. I haven't used the shockmount yet so I can't comment on that, but the microphone is great. Only con that I can think of is that it is pretty long, and if you get the deadcat to go with it, trim it down as it will show in your video.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound The NTG2 is a solidly built microphone and the sound for my purpose is very rich. I use it for you tube videos including using on a boom pole and for doing voice overs. I would have liked an on/off switch but that's a minor gripe. The supplied foam wind sock is fine for inside but for out side in the wind you will need a dead cat. The shock mount in the kit works just fine. I would recommend this unit.
