Almost worth the price

I first tried 3rd party plates for my monoballfix quick release, with unsatisfactory results. The first wouldn't lock and the second didn't lock convincingly. Rather than throw good money after bad, I gave in and tried the original Arca plate. The lock is noticeably more positive, giving me confidence to mount my heaviest cameras (I use 4x5 and 5x7 view cameras). Clearly, there are precise tolerances in the manufacture of these plates. Also, I can't say for certain but my sense is that the 3rd party plates are made of a softer metal. Only 4 stars because these things are ridiculously expensive. Otherwise, 5 stars because the 3rd party plates just don't work as well.

Because the lens is set a little to the left of center (as seen from the back) this plate still allows the battery/SD card compartment to open fully without having to detach the QR plate. Sweet! Love the Arca-swiss quick release system!

This plate will not interfere with the battery door on the xt5

Does this have a soft top to it (so it's not hard metal against the camera)?
There is a rubber grip on the top of the plate that keeps the plate in place without scratching the camera body.

I would like to attach my Nikon D800 to my Black Rapid RS-7 curve strap using some quick release equipment ie arca swiss slidefix QA Camera plate and a Kirk QRC-1 Quick release clamp. Is this practical and are these reasonable componets to do it with?
It is doable but not practical, it's a little on the small side. I use that particular model for my Fuji X100, where it's just right. I would suggest going with the regular Arca Swiss system, I use a Really Right Stuff L-Plate which I just leave on the camera.
