Sensei LHSC-58 overview

  • 1Description

The 58mm Screw-on Tulip Lens Hood from Sensei mounts onto your camera lens to prevent glare and lens flare by blocking out stray light. The lens hood also adds shock absorption to help protect your lens from impact damage. It easily screws onto any lens with a 58mm diameter and includes a locking collar for consistent positioning. As this lens hood can be used with lenses of varying focal lengths, its tulip shape is designed to prevent vignetting while still blocking unwanted light from entering your lens. The hood is ideal for full-frame lenses with focal lengths longer than 20mm, and APS-C lenses with focal lengths longer than 15mm.

    Sensei LHSC-58 reviews

58mm Screw-on Tulip Lens Hood is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 38.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not working well on Lumix 12-35mm f/2.8 Bought this for a replacement to the tulip-shaped lens hood for a Panasonic Lumix G 12-35mm f/2.8 and there's heavy vignetting at 12-17mm focal range when you have a protective filter on. Aside from that, it works well without a filter but I'm never using it because I'm way too much afraid of scratching the front glass element. I gave this 3 stars because you should NEVER remove a filter from a lens worth what the 12-35mm is worth, but to be fair, the product is solidly built, screws and stays in place, so it might work onto other 58mm lenses perfectly, just not the one I needed it for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Getting Exactly What's in Your Budget I uses this when shooting outdoors to reduce flair, but primarily because I like thinking that the hood will provided a bit of extra protection. I was a tad bit skeptical about the hood, but was rather satisfied when it arrived by mail. Its just a plastic tulip hood. It works within its design parameters, yet it doesn't cost nearly as much as the brand name version which isn't particularly more robust than the Sensei hood. It does seem to lack the soft velvet texture on the inside of the hood that can be found on the Canon brand hoods that I've come across, but that seems like a rather minute detail. I haven't had an opportunity to test how effective the flair reduction is on the Sensei in an extreme situation because of the bleak Chicago weather, but for now I am hugely satisfied with the Sensei hood.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from not a great fit for canon 28 f2.8 IS I bought this for canon's 28mm 2.8 IS mainly for protection. The threads don't line up well with this lens, so when it is all the way screwed on, it is visible in two corners. It works fine if it is a little loose, but won't stay that way. This lens has some outer distortion already, however, so it's not like it severely impacts the quality of the image. I will probably keep using it, and I think for the price it is alright.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for the price Good investment for protecting lenses from impact and flares. I have a UV filter on the end of my lens, I like that it screws onto the filter rather than mounting onto the lens like some lens hood do. It prevents the UV filter from catching flares. The only thing I would change is this: I wish that the hood could rotate with out being unscrewed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good price Budget price, standard construction and works well.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Would not buy this type of hood again. Needed this hood, it does the job but, didn't know I have to remove the shade before I can put on lens cover. Bought it on line. A bit of a hassle , other than that my other one saved my lens many times, all should have a hood not only for glare but banging into things... Would have liked if this was mentioned in the ad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have recommended this item to friends. I use this product to block out stray light.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality but go with the clip on version. It works great in vignetting. The price was probably the best thing going for it but looking back I'd go with the clip on version just because it's easier to put on and take off. The setup instructions were not entirely clear in explaining how to set it up to the lense especially with the ring that you adjust for lining up the lense... Overall it wasn't bad.
