LensCoat RainCoat Reviews

Expensive, designed for static tripod setups

This is a more expensive, more engineered alternative for the unfortunately no longer available StormJacket sleeves. I live in a rain forest, so tend to keep a jacket on my lens at all times. I run a strap through the tripod opening, and carry the lens and body upside down over my shoulder. When it is not raining, the darker sleeves help hide bright white lenses from wildlife. When it is raining, I rely on the jacket to have enough room to also protect the camera body from incidental rain. The medium length LensCoat sleeve is more expensive than my older sleeves, but is much shorter. I cannot use this to protect a Canon EF 100-400 or RF 100-500 with enough coverage to wrap around the camera body comfortably and reliably. The medium lens coat sleeve is just too short, leaving the rear of the body wide open. If I collapse the zoom and arrange the sleeve just so with the cinch, I can make it work. But tightening the cinch means I have to fiddle to take a shot. The mid-lens tightening strap looks nice - it helps keep the sleeve from ballooning in wind - but is only useful for a prime lens you don't need to manually focus. For a zoom, manual focus, or to access lens switches, you'll leave this loose. TL;DR: If you're static in one spot with a tripod, and can separately protect the camera body or can plan your shots to open the rear cinch, the medium size jacket is good for a smallish zoom. If you're mobile or need quick reaction you'll be better served finding a longer sleeve.

Well made. Terrific coverage.

Quite pleased with this lens raincoat. Made well and protects the tens and camera as I hoped.

It serves for a D7100 with a 17-50, 70-300 or 150-500 ?, is it very large?
Asked by: Agustin
LensCoat states that the LensCoat RainCoat Medium Sleeve (Green), B&H # LELCRSMGR, is 17" (43.2 cm) in size and would fit camera/lens combinations up to 15" (38.1 cm) in length. The Nikon D7100 DSLR camera and the Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM Lens would be approximately 12.9" (32.7 cm) in length. As such, the LensCoat RainCoat Medium Sleeve (Green) would be compatible for use with your longest camera/lens setup, and may also be used with the other two lenses you indicated for outdoor weather protection needs.

Asked by: Agustin
Yes you can use it for both configurations but of course when using it with the 17-50mm, it will droop over more but will still be usable.

No, not really. If you are looking for a cover that allows access to the lens, I would recommend the Think Tank Hydrophobia, click on the link below to view; https://bhpho.to/2lUbMAP

I think the answe is yes but I'm not sure. I do not have a Tamron lens. However, I will say the draw string is not very durable.

Wondering if this size is overkill for use with a Nikon 24-70mm 2.8? It will be fine for my 70-200mm 2.8, but I want to just try one size for (hopefully) both lenses.
Asked by: Brian
This will be bulky for your 24-70 but it will work. You can shorten the length of the lense cover. Having a cover that is larger than I need is the philosophy I used when I purchased my LensCoat.
