Impact Luxbanx Duo Overview

  • 1Description

The Luxbanx Duo Small Strip Softbox from Impact is a versatile 12 x 36" light shaping tool for strobe, LED, and fluorescent lights. It's also useable with quartz lights up to 750W due to its heat-resistant, textured silver interior. When using the Luxbanx Duo with strobes, both the front diffuser and inner baffle can be used for maximum softening of the output. When using it with hot lights the inner baffle should be removed. Open face lights can be used as is but it's recommended that you use the flood setting rather than spot on Fresnel sources. The softbox has 4 forward-opening vents to dissipate heat. Removing the front and inner diffuser essentially turns the Luxbanx Duo into a large reflector with maximum brightness and contrast.

The versatile Luxbanx Duo has an additional control via an optional fabric grid which mounts to the recessed lip of the softbox with touch-fasteners. The grid narrows and concentrates the light's beam forward, controlling spill light and adding directional control to the Luxbanx Duo's attributes. The long, narrow shape of the softbox make it ideal for side-lighting and hair-lighting in portraiture, tabletop work, and up-lighting backgrounds. Every Luxbanx comes with a carrying case and a spare Flex Rod. Separate purchase of a speed ring that matches your light's mount is required for use. Impact makes models to fit most popular brands.

When using hot lights, the inner baffle should be removed.

    Impact Luxbanx Duo Reviews

Luxbanx Duo Small Strip Softbox (12 x 36-) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT Strip Light, Glad I Purchased It I wasn't sure about the Impact name or the Luxbanx soft box line, but everything listed was what I wanted, the reviews were excellent and the price was really good so I gave it a shot. Having used these now I am very happy with the Luxbanx soft boxes and love my 12X36 strip lights. The build quality is very good and the material is a fairly thick canvas which I like. The center diffuser snaps in easily and there is room in the front, after the front diffuser is installed, for a grid (optional purchase). It came with an extra rod and a nice case. One thing I really like is that there is a loop in the middle to hold the rods. I had a soft box before where the rod only mounted by the pocket at one end and the speed ring at the other--it was miserable to put together and I immediately got rid of it. I can never tell if a soft box has some way to secure the rods in the middle or not, so I was happy the Luxbanx soft boxes did. I would like to see this information in the description of all the soft boxes listed. I own 2 of the strip boxes and a deep 39 Octa from Impact. So far I am very happy with everything about them including the light I get from them. It will be hard to get me into another softbox after using these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Built with great materials I recently purchased 2 impact C-Stands and wasnt sure what to expect..they blew me away! So without hesitation, I decided to order this stripbox. Once again, Impact blew me away. The materials used in this are high and durable quality, and I am comfortable using both strobes AND hot lights in them. Will definitely opt for more Impact products in the future.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Unsure...I will revise depending on how CS responds The overall quality of the softbox is fantastic. It's heavy duty, and seems like it will hold up to the wear and tear of production. I gave an average rating because the Softbox doesn't work well with the speed ring, despite being the same brand. The softbox doesn't fully close in the back around the speed ring allowing light to spill out the back. i've rigged it with flags and use barndoors to control the spill but it shouldn't allow this much light spillage...and that's what I'm waiting to hear back from customer service about.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well built for amateur use I longer shoot professionally so this review is written from an advanced amateur's perspective. This Luxbanx Duo 12x36 strip softbox is well built and the thick cloth material inspires confidence. It's a bit of a hassle to assemble and disassemble so I leave it assembled. It's also a tad heavy. The only nit I have is, for this price, it would be nice to include a grid. Otherwise, it's a good value. I've been using it for a BW Nude Triptych project and it works well.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Difficult It's a nice size but it's pretty difficult to build and take apart. The rods continuely come out of their pockets making it difficult to set up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality Strip Bank I previously bought a generic rectangular softbox to practice with. I can tell the difference between that one and this Impact strip bank. I got it on sale, with the grid included. It does need the speed ring, and it takes a little time to put together by attaching the metal rods. Maybe it will be faster once I've done it a few times. Otherwise, the softbox is great, and seems very well put together.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great quality, but not quick for set up... I bought this for headshots, and chose this one from the reviews and past experience w Impact. Quality of construction and light quality are easily 5 stars, but the reason that I gave it 4 stars was that it wasn't as portable as I was looking for w set up and take down of the softbox.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good beginner softbox Good quality in relative comparison to higher end softboxes. Does the job and is 100% capable of gettiing good images. I use this add light to hair or narrow light from the side, usually with a flash or small strobe.

    question

why no speedrings for Norman 2400 or 2500; or photogenic DR2500?
    Asked by: Rick T.
They have speedrings for those lights, but I'm not sure if the box fits the lights you are using. I don't use those brands of lights, so I can't tell you if this box is compatible with them. MIght be a question for their customer service (either Luxbanx or B&H).

    question

I'm looking for something similar to a back light from a natural source, such as a window. Will this product satisfy that requirement? I also need to know what type of light would come closest to simulating a natural light source.Thank you
    Asked by: Anonymous
The Impact Luxbanx Duo Small Strip Softbox is not a light source in itself; it is simply a softbox that you would add to the compatible light source you are using. However, as it is roughly the size of a small-to-medium window (also depending on the distance from which you place the light respect to your subject), it can be used to mimic window lighting. You can use a combination of light distance, camera settings, white balance, or even filter gels to get different effects or simulate lighting during different times of the day, but as long as the light is placed at a distance roughly the distance a window of equal size would naturally appear, the light can be tailored to mimic natural lighting.

    question

What is quality/reputation of Impact softboxes? I see Bowens Lumiair are double Impact? Is the Durability or make twice as good?
    Asked by: Sean T.
I own two Impact Luxbank Duo stripboxes and both are A quality. Far better than Buff, more robust than even Elinchrom. Note that these serve for both strobes & hot lights (read: cinema lights), so the material is thick and sturdy enough to withstand high heat. The only negative is the chintzy branding logo; however, other than that, a professionally built softbox that works fantastically well.
