For capturing and recording adventures, few brands can top a GoPro. Whether you’re on land, in the air, or under the sea, GoPro has you covered. But no matter which GoPro you choose, you’re probably going to need a couple of accessories to get the most out of your camera. To help determine which add-ons are right for you, we’ve put together this buying guide of GoPro accessories.
Mounts
With GoPros, one of the most obvious questions is: how am I going to mount it? Similar to choosing the camera itself, the right mount largely depends on your adventure and what you hope to capture. For endeavors where you want to capture a traditional first-person POV shot, consider a wearable mount, such as shoulder, chest or head mount. All three options allow you to capture hands-free footage with your GoPro, so you can concentrate on the action, not recording. There are plenty of options for mounting on vehicles, as well. A handlebar/pole mount allows you to attach your GoPro to most bikes and seat posts, while a good old-fashioned suction mount will let you stick it just about anywhere else. And for those times when you need an extended view (like, say, when you want to reach your GoPro out of a shark cage), you can use an extension tripod to get some extra height or length.
Water Accessories
For all you underwater adventurers, there are lots of amphibious add-ons to help you get the most out of your GoPro. Start with an aqua filter pack, which will give you the necessary color correction when shooting under the sea. If you need a little more light when you’re beneath the waves, you can use an underwater light to dial-up the illumination. Both GoPro HERO6 and HERO7 are waterproof down to 33', but if you’re doing some deep-sea exploring and need more protection, pick up a scuba-suitable housing unit that will allow you to keep recording down to 197'.
Power
The last thing you want is for your GoPro to die while you’re out on an adventure. Luckily, there are plenty of straightforward solutions to help avoid running out of juice. The most obvious? Just get another battery. Power packs and portable chargers are great when you’re out in the wild but so is not having to use one because you brought along a spare battery. If you do pick up a second battery, you might also snag a dual battery kit to simultaneously power them up for your next adventure.
Memory Cards
Sometimes, the content is too captivating to shut the camera off or delete footage. If you’re worried that your content might run long, be sure to bring along a spare memory card or two. This way you don’t have to fuss with deleting footage in the field or offloading images to a portable hard drive to free up space. Just pop in a fresh memory card and keep the fun times rolling.
