Hitting the scene with a versatile lineup of all-manual primes for mirrorless cameras, 7artisans Photoelectric lenses are now available at B&H for Fujifilm X, Micro Four Thirds, and APS-C-format Sony E-mount cameras. Covering a range from ultra-wide to normal, these optics are characterized by their simple and refined designs, all-metal lens-barrel construction, and fast maximum apertures.
The widest APS-C lens available—the 7.5mm f/2.8 Fisheye—has an impressive 180° angle of view, along with the distinctive fisheye appearance, to produce imagery with strong distortion and exaggerated spatial rendering. The manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 4.7" away, and a built-in petal-type lens hood helps to protect the bulbous front element, as well as deflect stray light from causing flare. Slightly narrower is the 12mm f/2.8, which serves as a comfortable ultra-wide-angle option, with a relatively bright f/2.8 maximum aperture. Each of the ten elements in this lens’s design is multi-coated, too, to control flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy. A bit narrower still, the 25mm f/1.8 lens is the sole lens in the 7artisans lineup that is also available for Canon EF-M-mount, and this general wide-angle prime is characterized by its fast f/1.8 maximum aperture to suit working in low-light conditions. Like other lenses, this 25mm has multi-coated elements, manual focus and aperture rings, all-metal physical construction, and it also features a rounded 12-blade diaphragm for smooth out of focus rendering.
Moving to the longer focal lengths in the lineup, next up is the 35mm f/1.2 that, like the wides, has multi-coated elements, a manual focus design with engraved depth-of-field scale, and is available for Fujifilm X, Micro Four Thirds, and APS-C-format Sony E-mount cameras. Distinct from the f/1.2 model, though, is the 7artisans 35mm f/2 lens, which is compatible with full-frame Sony E-mount cameras. This general wide-angle prime shares many of the specs and characteristics of the APS-C lenses, including the multi-coated optical design and manual operation. Back to the sub-full-frame options, next is an especially compact lens offering a slightly longer-than-normal field of view. The 50mm f/1.8 is ideal for isolating subject matter and using selective focus techniques, and the rounded 12-blade diaphragm produces especially smooth bokeh. Rounding out the mirrorless options is the 55mm f/1.4, which serves as a comfortable focal length for portraiture. The bright f/1.4 maximum aperture excels in low light and the rounded 14-blade diaphragm helps to realize smooth, circular out-of-focus highlights in shallow-depth-of-field imagery.
Finally, unique from the rest of its lineup, 7artisans also has an impressively fast 50mm f/1.1 lens, which is available in the Leica M-mount. This lens is coupled for rangefinder focusing on M-mount bodies and has a minimum focusing distance of 2.3', which is complemented by both depth of field and focus distance scales. It utilizes a Sonnar-type optical design to realize a high degree of sharpness and accurate rendering, and a multi-coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress flare and ghosting.
