RF to PL-Mount Adapter with ND filter
Open up your lens choices to include pro cine-style ARRI PL-mount lenses and to add easy exposure control using the new RF to PL Adapter with Electronic ND Filter Pack, which will be available in versions for the KOMODO and KOMODO-X and the RED V-RAPTOR. This adapter features an ND filter that is electronically adjustable from 2 to 7 stops and pass-through of Cook i/ and ZEISS XC lens metadata. This versatile filter can be controlled using the built-in buttons, the Touch 7.0" LCD, RED control apps, a web interface or any RCP2 controller. Each filter version includes a clear filter and brackets and side ribs to support the adapter.
Monitoring
Thanks to its DSMC3 design, the KOMODO-X can interface directly with the RED Touch 7.0" LCD monitor, which bolts onto the camera body to receive power and video signal sans cables. Of course, the camera’s 12G-SDI output can be used with a third-party SDI onboard monitor of your choice, as well, or a wireless video transmitter.
Not only does SmallHD’s Indie 5 RED RCP2 Monitor Kit provide a crisp 5" touchscreen display for setting up and viewing your capture, it offers RCP2 protocol control for starting/stopping the camera and functions such as playback, exposure, color-temperature adjustments, and shutter settings.
Share your KOMODO-X capture with the director, producer, talent, or other crew members in “video village” using a wireless video system like the Bolt 6 LT 750 3G-SDI/HDMI Transmitter/Receiver Kit from Teradek. This transmitter and receiver kit features a line-of-sight transmission range of up to 750', 3G-SDI and HDMI connectors, AES-256 encryption, and a Bluetooth mobile app.
Media
Like RED’s V-RAPTOR and V-RAPTOR XL 8K cameras, the KOMODO-X records video to fast CFexpress Type B cards. The 1TB PRO CFexpress 2.0 Type B Memory Card is a new addition to a series of dedicated memory cards developed by RED and Angelbird with capacities that range up to 4TB. Each card features maximum read/write speeds of 1785 MB/s and protection against shock, dust, water, and extreme temperatures.
Power
When it comes to powering the KOMODO-X, you can maintain the camera’s compact, nimble build by using RED’s new NANO-V battery. This 49Wh, micro V-mount battery fits flush with the top of the camera for easier use with cages and plates. It can power the camera and a RED Touch 7.0" LCD for short periods of time, suiting it to use for gimbal and drone capture.
Expansion
RED is also releasing Gold and V-Mount RED PRO I/O Modules that enable you to use full-size Gold or V-mount batteries when you prefer a larger capacity over a smaller form. These modules also provide additional power and communication interfaces including timecode in, genlock, and 4-pin control interfaces. I/O Module power options include one DC power input, one regulated 24V R/S port, and two unregulated 12V AUX ports.
Audio Options
The KOMODO-X’s audio circuit has been improved with better levels and preamps with a lower noise floor. To go along with it, use the DSMC3 RED 5-Pin LEMO to 3.5mm Female Audio Adapter or the DSMC3 5-Pin to Dual XLR 3-Pin Adapter to add the mic or audio device of your choice.
Cages and Handles
RED’s new Compact Top Handle is thoughtfully designed with modular sections so you can configure it to your liking―a run/stop trigger, a 15mm rod monitor support, and plenty of ¼"-20 and 3/8"-16 anti-twist threads. Compatible with the KOMODO-X, V-RAPTOR, and V-RAPTOR XL, it can be attached directly to your camera. You can also outfit your KOMODO-X using existing KOMODO supports such as the Outrigger Handle―a run/stop top handle with a contoured grip or the Wing Grip―a cheese-plate-style side handle that offers multiple accessory mounts.
Due to the form of the KOMODO-X’s reinforced RF lens mount, select existing KOMODO cages may not fit the newer model exactly. But dedicated cages for the KOMODO-X are in several manufacturers’ pipelines, so check the B&H site in the upcoming months for those.
