A Look At Step-up Rings
Add variety to your camera filter options with step-up rings. They're small metal rings with different thread sizes on either side, and are used by photographers and filmmakers to adapt their equipment to different-sized filters.
What Are Step-up Rings Used For?
Step-up rings for filters screw onto the ends of camera lenses. They attach filters that are too big. Step-down rings are also available that connect filters with diameters smaller than the lens. Lens filters offer many aesthetic options when it comes to taking pictures or videos. Use step-up and step-down rings to swap between different filters regardless of their diameter. This way, you won't need to buy multiple filters if you switch cameras or lenses. They also save room in your camera pack if you own different lenses or cameras.
Choosing Camera Step-up Rings
Although step-up adapter rings all serve the same purpose, it's a good idea to consider a few things before purchasing. Knowing the size of your camera lens and filter is the critical factor when determining step-up ring size. For example, if your lens has a diameter of 52mm but the filter you want to use is 77mm, then you need a 52-77mm step-up ring. The material of the ring is another factor. While aluminum rings cost less, brass rings are more durable.
Other Filter and Camera Accessories
In addition to lens filter step-up rings, other accessories are available to improve your setup and workflow. To keep your equipment from becoming scratched or broken, lens and filter pouches and cases are a good investment. They also make travel easier by increasing portability. Other accessories such as caps and hoods are great to have on hand as backups, or for different lighting situations. To maintain your lenses and filters, consider lens and optics cleaners. Not only do they increase the lifespan of your gear, but they also ensure a clear final image or video, free from smudges or marks.
