Tiffen aXent overview

  • 1Description

The Tiffen 62mm XLE Series aXent ND 3.0 Filter is a solid ND filter with a 1000x filter factor that provides a 10-stop exposure reduction. Its 3.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

3.0 neutral density filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.
Providing a 10-stop exposure reduction, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

    Tiffen aXent reviews

62mm XLE Series aXent Neutral Density 3.0 Filter is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Color is affected The description leads you to believe there is no color shift when using this filter. I have found that it removes all the green color. Grass and trees have a nice orange brown fall like tint. The sky however remains as it should. I got it to use mostly with B&W anyway so it's no big deal. The color shot almost looks like a color infra red image. If you are doing B&W you will be fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Filter on a budget There are many more expensive ND filters. However, this one works great! Very little color cast, and a great place to start when considering your first 10 Stop ND filter.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Enough Information Resulted in Mistaken ID Of ND While the filter is properly described as an aXent series filter there is not enough information in the features portion of the page to inform the potential buyer about proper use. In the pamphlet that comes with the filter, the aXent series is ...designed for full frame DSLR cameras when used primarily in B&W mode. Unfortunately, I wanted to shoot in color with a micro 4/3 camera. The images had a color shift that will require extra post processing to return to the color as I photographed. The trees are not dead. The same pamphlet described the ApeX as the correct filter for my intended use. Purchasing an ND filter should have been easier, but I guess I should have gone online and Live Chatted with an expert to find out the real details. I did actually review the three-part B&H video series on ND filters before making this purchase and I didn't remember anything being said about filters being designed ...especially for B&W....

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not too bad I love getting the longer exposure from this vs my tiffen 1.2, but it makes all the greens in the image look like yellow fall colors! All other color seems pretty accurate. And it's kind of a pain to adjust in post. Especially when there are also yellows in the frame. 5 stars for the long exposure, 2 for the color shift I'm getting.
