Tiffen aXent overview

  • 1Description

The Tiffen 67mm XLE Series aXent Neutral Density 3.0 Filter is a solid ND filter with a 1000x filter factor that provides a 10-stop exposure reduction. Its 3.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

3.0 neutral density filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.
Providing a 10-stop exposure reduction, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

    Tiffen aXent reviews

67mm XLE Series aXent Neutral Density 3.0 Filter is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 10 stop reduction is accurate. I've used 0.3 and 0.9 Tiffen ND filters before for long exposure photography and have had good results with Tiffen. I finally got tired of stacking multiple filters to get the reduction this one 3.0 filter provided. This aXent ND 3.0 performed just fine. There are always drawback to filters with this much light reduction. In the case of this filter, the end image was very warm in natural light. With Photoshop I had to adjust the White Balance temperature to 4350 Blue and the tint -27 towards the Green to make my daylight shot look like a normal 5500/+10 Daylight White Balance. But that was easy, expected, and doesn't affect the picture's quality in any way. I definitely like the results, would recommend it, and would buy this product again. P.S.: Don't forget to cover your eyepiece during long exposures like I did in photo #2!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product As the cheapest 10-stop filter on the market, I definitely did not expect much of it. I mainly used it as a filter to start out with. This filter definitely exceeded my expectations. Of course, as a cheap filter, it has some minor drawbacks. There is a slight vignette, and also a magenta color cast. But these are all very minor and definitely do not degrade image quality. My pictures were very sharp even with this filter on. I have not shot into the sun with this filter yet, so I can't really say much about glare.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great, Great Price I have used it a few times already, and it works perfectly. I would buy it again in a second and recommend it to anyone looking for an ND Filter.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely disappointed I bought it because of the good reviews, but was very disappointed by the results. There is a very strong magenta colorcast that I haven't been able to remove even using different image processing tools. Unless you shoot in back and white, it's not acceptable. Glad that I was able to get a refund from B&H.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Dense ND, some vignetting/ cool maroon flares This is my first ND filter so I'm using it to learn and practice. It's probably not the best one on the market, but I like it a lot. I had hoped to use it with video as well as long exposure photographs, but it's so dense even at f2 I have to bump the ISO way up (not the ND filter's fault, I just had to get the 10 stop one...). I haven't had any of the color cast that others have talked about but there is pretty strong vignette. If you like that look, it's baked in! As an added bonus (or negative depending on your needs), when layered on top of my UV filter, I get really nice maroon flares. They only really develop when the sun's in the center so if your light source isn't square in the frame you shouldn't have to worry about them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Inexpensive but it works I give it 4 stars only because of the slight color cast. Lightroom removes the cast without too much trouble though and I am impressed with the quality of the filter. I did have to clean some residue off the filter on arrival and I wonder if people are mistaking this residue for some sort of imperfection. It is not.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Haven't Used The Filter yet, But Expect No Issues Have never had an issue with any of the gear I've purchased from B & H and don't expect an issue now. Purchased a # 10 ND Filter, arrived very well packaged. And as soon as the clouds disappear, and, or, it stops snowing, I'll try it out.
