Compatible with both Windows and Mac based computers, the FASTA-6GU3 Plus PCIe Card from CalDigit makes it simple to upgrade nearly any computer to support both USB 3.1 and 6 Gb/s eSATA connections. The USB 3.1 ports support data transfer rates of up to 10 Gb/s while remaining backwards compatible with both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 devices. The 6 Gb/s eSATA port makes it easy to connect eSATA devices directly to the computer without the need for any addition converters or peripherals. With a space saving design this PCIe card will only take up one slot within your desktop computer leaving other slots open for additional cards.

FASTA-6GU3 Plus PCIe Card is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Have used PCIe CalDigit Fasta 6GU3 Cards for years. I Have 2 mac Pros Towers. First I had one and have bought the older types of Caldigit cards for that computer, always connected to the second pcie 16 slot. Recently I bought another macpro Tower. Then I bought this new CalDigit Fasta 6GU3 Plus Pcie Card and installed it to the second Tower in Pcie 16 slot. This card is USB 3.1 and have very fast eSata and USB connectors. It has more features, but I am waiting for Cables, hub and more stuff, wich I have already purchased, before I can use all its features. I like the Card. I thank the seller for fast shipping. That is all - Thank you very mouch....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! I bought this because I only had one available PCIe slot in my Mac Pro 4,1 and I wanted to have USB 3 for faster file copying while retaining the ability to boot externally via eSATA (the card that this replaced only had eSATA). I tested this card and it works great! Plug and play, no issues. The only thing I haven't tested yet is the USB-C port because I don't have a USB-C cable, but I will soon. Mac users should be aware that according to CalDigit, the 10Gbps speed via USB-C is only possible after contacting them to request a firmware update, which can only be used if your Mac is running Sierra (10.12). The card ships with firmware that allows the USB-C port to run at 5Gbps. Also keep in mind that this is an x2 card. So be aware that even with the firmware update that allows the 10Gbps speed over USB-C, the transfer speeds will be capped at a theoretical maximum of 1.0 GB/s (and probably less after system overhead). So even though the PORT is capable of up to 1.25 GB/s, the CARD can only allow up to 1.0 GB/s.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 10 Gb/sec USB speed even in a PCIe 1.0 slot I've updated my Mac Pro (Early 2008) to run macOS Sierra (using a patched installer) so that it can use 10 Gb/sec USB cards. I had been using a Startech PCIe gen 2 x2 2-Port USB 3.1 card that uses the ASM1142 ASMedia USB 3.1 Host Controller. I only have two PCIe gen 2 slots which are already occupied. The other two slots are gen 1 slots, which could only do up to 500 MB/s but they don't support x2 so actually only allow 250 MB/s. The Caldigit 6GU3 Plus is a PCIe gen 2 x4 card and uses the same USB controller but because there is a PCIe switch with 4 lanes upstream, the USB controller will have almost the same performance in the PCIe gen 1 slots (up to 1000 MB/s). Both USB ports (10 Gbps) are on the same USB controller, which uses a PCIe gen 2 x2 link to the x4 switch, so you can't raid them to get more than 1000 MB/s. The SATA ports (6 Gbps) have a similar limitation. You could raid the USB ports and the SATA ports together to get up to 2000 MB/s if the card is in a PCIe gen 2 slot. The Caldigit card comes with USB 3.0 (5 Gbps) firmware so that it will be compatible with Mac OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) and earlier. I applied the USB 3.1 (10 Gbps) firmware updater from Caldigit's website which makes the USB ports work only in macOS 10.12 (Sierra) or later but at 10 Gbps. With the gen 1 firmware, my OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual mini bus-powered USB 3.1 Gen 2 RAID can do 425 MB/s read. With the gen 2 firmware, the read can go up to 745 MB/s. The speeds are slightly faster in a current PC. Both the Startech and the Caldigit cards show my OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual mini as Up to 5 Gb/sec but they both transfer at more than 5 Gb/sec, so this is probably a bug in the ASMedia firmware where it doesn't set the USB xHCI Port Status and Control Register (PORTSC) correctly (at least for this device). This register is read by Mac OS to display the current speed in System Information.app.
