Hoya B-49RM72-GB overview

  • 1Description

The Hoya 49mm R72 Infrared Filter is a specialized filter used for infrared photography with digital cameras and specialized infrared film. This nearly opaque filter blocks all visible light up to 720nm, enabling recording of subject matter and scenes that are not visible under normal conditions. Due to the nature of infrared photography, the filter factor for this filter is highly variable and depends largely on the ISO sensitivity in use and lighting conditions.

This filter is constructed from high-quality optical glass and is set in an aluminum filter ring to provide increased rigidity and prevention from filter jamming.

Used for infrared photography applications with digital cameras and specialized IR film.
Blocks all visible light up to 720nm for photographing subjects and details that are not normally visible.
Variable filter factor depending on ISO sensitivity and lighting conditions.
Can be paired with colored black and white contrast filters to change the colored or contrast effects with this filter.

    Hoya B-49RM72-GB reviews

    49mm R72 Infrared Filter is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Infrared without converting your camera! Infrared photography is a fun way to try something new! It isn't all that easy though. Do a search and make sure you know what you're getting into before buying the filter. The filter does a good job at filtering all visable light. It's well made and feels like it's high quality and definately not cheap. Since it blocks out all visable light, you will need a longer exposure to get the infrared light captured. I use a Sony Nex5n and needed exposures between 30 seconds up to 2 minutes, so a tripod is a must. My pictures came out okay and needed editing to get that awesome dreamy look that so many of these pictures has. Long store short, if you like to experiment and edit once the picture is taken, this is a fun hobby and this filter is a must have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Infrared Starts Here This is the filter that will give the same gee-whiz results that we love in amazing infrared photos. Construction is solid aluminum and glass. Start here to get pleasing results the first time without much fuss and without the much greater expense of competing brands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DIY Convert to Infrared I used this filter to convert an old Canon Rebel to an infrared only camera. I disassembled my Rebel, remove the glass over the Rebel's sensor and replaced it with a segment of this filer. Thus blocking all but IR light to the sensor. The viewfinder looks the same as before, but the sensor only sees IR light. Removing the glass element from the lens ring was straight forward. The retaining ring was doing a fine job of holding the element in place for normal use, but I was able to remove the glass element without damage. I was able to use a standard glass cutter on the filter to cut the size needed for the Rebel's sensor. The glass element is solid and sturdy and allowed me to make cuts where needed. The glass took the punishment of tapping to break at the score without damage to the rest of the glass. No flaws found. The infrared is a new experiment for me. I am happy in the way this filter work in this respect. I found the filter solid and would not hesitate to use it on the front of a lens if that is your purpose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from does what it says I bought this filter to shoot infrared with a Fuji x100s camera, and it does the job. Build quality is great, and you can't beat the price when comparing it to other infrared filters. An inexpensive way to give infrared a shot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great way to try IR! I was wanting to try out some IR before doing a camera conversion. This is great if you want to dabble and put in some time and effort post editing and can stand long exposures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from IR Filter Very good filter for IR photo shooting. No hot spots, good edge to edge consistency! Can't beat the price either!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good way to start IR photography I use this filter on my Fuji X100 for IR photography. It has offered me a brand new way of seeing at a very affordable price compared to modding the camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good Only had the opportunity to snap a few shots so far, but I love the results. Its difficult to find an introductory IR filter for 49mm, the few IR filters at that size are rather expensive for a first foray into IR photography. I still have some playing around to do, but i'm liking the results so far.
