Hoya B-62RM72-GB Reviews

it's good quality, but might not be true infrared...

hoya is always good quality for the money, but not 100% sure this is infrared, but instead a close resemblance to infrared and you have to do photoshop or adjustments. you may need to have your camera adjusted by a professional to make it a true infrared.

Good filter for exploring IR photography

I purchased this filter to explore shooting infrared photography with my Fuji X-T2 and X-T3 cameras, which have relatively weak IR blocking hot mirrors on the sensor. The filter works very well, blocking nearly all visible light. The filter mount is fairly thick, but doesn't vignette with moderate wide angle lenses like the Fuji 14mm. The only negatives are that the filter surface is not easy to clean smudges off of (common issue with Hoya coatings), and also that the glass doesn't fit very tightly in the frame so it shifts around when cleaning. Good value for the price, though.

Got great results using this filter on both Rollei infrared film and my DSLR. High quality build.

After trying the Polaroid IR720 filter, which is not actually infrared filter, finally I have something that works amazingly. Interestingly I can focus even with the filter on with my Pentax K3 using the live view with guided focus lines.

Got this to use on the Fuji WCL-70 wide angle converter lens on my Fuji X100 that was converted for full-spectrum infrared. It works well for black and white infrared images, and I do not detect any image hot spots. I also have a 49mm Hoya R72 to use when not using the wide angle converter, and the image characteristics look consistent with the 62mm filter.

Satisfactory Filter for IR enthusiasts

I have never been let down by Hoya. This is a nice piece of glass for the price, and produces usable ir images in the 720nm wavelength. I am using this on a Sony Alpha 18-135 lens with a Sony a to e mount adapter on a NEX-7 diy converted to full spectrum with no internal fixed filter. With the Hoya filter mounted I still have AF control, and no visible hot spots. Completly satisfied.

This filter fits the Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8, which affirmatively by actual testing does not cause infrared hotspots, unlike many zoom lenses.

Produces banding on the images and just overall don't care for it

question

Will it leave some soft color? Or will it always look B&W? Or, was the sample image converted to B&W?Thanks,MJ

The sample image on our web site was provided to us by Hoya and is labeled Simulated so I do not know what was done to get it to look the way it does. Infrared photography does not include visible light which includes the colors we see. Near-infrared image capture occurs in the range from about 700 nm to about 900 nms. The Hoya R72 Infrared Filter is a specialized filter that blocks all visible light up to 720nm, enabling recording of subject matter and scenes that are not visible under normal conditions. When captured with a digital camera or IR color film false-color is recorded depending on the IR the subject is reflecting. Film based IR photography offered both color and B&W emulsions. Digital cameras will record false-colors which can be edited in post processing to the color scheme of your choice or converted to a grey scale (B&W) image.
