The Hoya 55mm R72 Infrared Filter is a specialized filter used for infrared photography with digital cameras and specialized infrared film. This nearly opaque filter blocks all visible light up to 720nm, enabling recording of subject matter and scenes that are not visible under normal conditions. Due to the nature of infrared photography, the filter factor for this filter is highly variable and depends largely on the ISO sensitivity in use and lighting conditions.

This filter is constructed from high-quality optical glass and is set in an aluminum filter ring to provide increased rigidity and prevention from filter jamming.

Used for infrared photography applications with digital cameras and specialized IR film.
Blocks all visible light up to 720nm for photographing subjects and details that are not normally visible.
Variable filter factor depending on ISO sensitivity and lighting conditions.
Can be paired with colored black and white contrast filters to change the colored or contrast effects with this filter.

    55mm R72 Infrared Filter is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great infrared filter! This filter works out very well for me and produces great images through my minolta 5d when white balance is set for night and shooting in RAW. My camera is not a dedicated infrared camera, however when I did the remote test it picks up a very good amount of infrared light. Construction and quality are classic Hoya. Don't even think about getting one of the cheap infrared filters when this one is really not that much more. If you are going to be using this filter with a digital camera, I highly recommend doing the remote test first. Grab your favorite TV remote, head to a room with preferably no windows, put your camera in night landscape mode, make sure your camera is between iso 100-400, turn off the lights, push and hold a button on the remote and take a picture of the ir bulb (use a tripod and remote or timer as the exposure will be long). If you can see the bulb really well, your camera has good ir sensitivity. Buy this filter and have fun. If you can't see the bulb, don't waste your money as this filter will be all but useless. You can have your camera modified to take great ir shots, however that's all you can take afterwords.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality I had ordered one with great skepticism about 4 months because of the price. I was pleased to find that the quality far compensates that. Great filter at a just price.
