The Hoya 58mm Neutral Density (NDX4) 0.6 Filter has several uses and offers the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the film. They have no effect on color balance.

Multi-coated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.

Neutral Density filters have four main uses

To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high speed films, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars
To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background
To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situations
To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure

Neutral Density Factors

2x = ND.3 (exposure adjustment = 1 stop, reduces ISO 1/2)
4x = ND.6 (exposure adjustment = 2 stops, reduces ISO 1/4)
8x = ND.9 (exposure adjustment = 3 stops, reduces ISO 1/8)
As one of the premier filter manufacturers, Hoya filters continue to made from quality glass assuring the photographer clear, sharp and accurate images
Hoya filters consistently provide even color all the way through the filter; All surfaces are ground and polished to specific thickness and tolerances

    58mm Neutral Density (NDX4) 0.6 Filter is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 9.
    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must-Have Filter for Landscapes This is a good filter for the money which is important as no landscape photographer should go outside without a neutral density filter or two. The .6 is a good choice if you want to carry just one. Great for general daylight use and perfect for waterfalls; allows you to use a slower shutter speed for that silky water look.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job This is my first experience with ND filters, so I am not too knowledgeable about them. I used it to shoot video with a Canon D5-MarkII, from a sailboat on the water. It allowed me to shoot slow shutter speeds (1/30 - 1/125) in bright but cloudy conditions, and I had no concern about having to increase shutter speed or go to f32 just to limit light. Unlike another filter I purchased, this one had 1+ turns of thread on the lens so it was not at risk of falling off.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from These are great ! I bought this filter to use for landscapes (mostly water falls) and portraits. They are great for letting you shoot at slower shutter speeds or lower apertures without blowing out your photo or affecting the color.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great with Canon XA/20 XA/25 Excellent quality, and the slim bezel allows this filter to fit nicely under the Canon shade.
