The Hoya 72mm Neutral Density (NDX4) 0.6 Filter has several uses and offers the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the film. They have no effect on color balance.

Multi-coated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.

Neutral Density filters have four main uses

To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high speed films, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars
To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background
To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situations
To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure

Neutral Density Factors

2x = ND.3 (exposure adjustment = 1 stop, reduces ISO 1/2)
4x = ND.6 (exposure adjustment = 2 stops, reduces ISO 1/4)
8x = ND.9 (exposure adjustment = 3 stops, reduces ISO 1/8)
As one of the premier filter manufacturers, Hoya filters continue to made from quality glass assuring the photographer clear, sharp and accurate images
Hoya filters consistently provide even color all the way through the filter; All surfaces are ground and polished to specific thickness and tolerances

72mm Neutral Density (NDX4) 0.6 Filter is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ND filter This Hoya filter is great quality and not expensive. The ring is fairly thin(not quite as thin as the slim filters but slimmer than most conventional ones)so less chance of vignetting on wide angles. And it has threads on the front so you can mount lens caps, hoods, and additional filters. I ran a few flare tests with and without the filter. Most of the images did not have any more flare with it on than without. Only the harshest test-LED flashlight 3 feet in front of lens aimed directly into it had more flare with the filter. And I checked the accuracy-its exacly 2 stops. Some less expensive ND's can be 1/3, 2/3, or even one stop off of what they're rated. But this Hoya is dead on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hurray for Hoya A great ND filter for my kit lens. This 0.6 ND filter works wonderful for taking pictures of waterfalls in the middle of a sunny day.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from ND filters and adapter ring I use the ND filters to make longer exposures. For example, when shooting a stream or waterfall, I prefer a longer exposure to capture the water movement. They also work well when combined with a polarizer to control glare. I also purchased an adapter ring to use my 72mm on a 77mm lens; that was a mistake. The adapter ring is a pain to use. It's well worth it to buy a filter for each lens and not mess with adapter rings. It may cost more, but it's less agrivating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter to have in camera bag It is an important addition to any camera accessories list. It basically slows down the amount of light reaching the sensor, which is very useful in sunny weather or when one wants to slow down movement such as in waterfalls. This filter will alow a photographer to use the camera creatively when there is too much light.
