Improving the viewfinder image for near-sighted users, this Leica Correction Lens M provides a -1.5-dioptric adjustment to the camera's finder for more comfortable viewing and a reduced need for wearing eyeglasses while shooting. The built-in -0.5 correction should be taken into account when choosing a diopter correction for distance viewing. The chosen diopter value should be short by 0.5 if a minus value is indicated by the prescription, or higher by 0.5 if a plus value is indicated. So your first part of the question in your assumption is correct!
