Tiffen 58HTCGND6 Overview

The Digital HT coating is a high transmission multicoating that surpasses military specifications for hardness and durability. This optical purity combined with high scratch-resistance results in an easy-to-clean filter with superb imaging quality. They also feature low-profile titanium filter rings for increased strength and vignetting reduction.

0.6 ND graduated filter for darkening skies and other bright areas of the image.
Feathered edge is neither soft nor hard, providing a natural-appearing taper between the density and clear areas of the filter.
Neutral density filters do not affect the overall coloration of the image.
Rotating filter ring allows more control over placement of density in the image.
Digital HT multicoating provides increased strength, durability, and optical clarity for greater light transmission and protection against scratches.
Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology; a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting to precision metal rings.

Great For Digital!!

I bought this for my Quattro DP2, which prefers to run at ISO100 and can make some landscapes a little tricky. In the Pittsburgh, PA area you can often have some spectacular skies to add drama to your cityscapes, but can lose land detail if you stop down to avoid burning the sky. A nice feature of this filter is that it rotates so you can get it into the position you need easily. For my own work, I didn't feel the need for the extra coating and digital-ready stuff, but spent the extra $10.00 USD or so for the rotating feature. What a polarizer can't quite do at times, this filter can, Like all Tiffen filters, it's well-designed and manufactured, right here in the U.S. of A. and reasonably priced. Been using them for 40 years with no complaint!

After I received this filter I went out and shot a few hundred pictures to learn when and when not to use this filter. In a high contrast situation (for example, a sunny sky over an evergreen forest) this filter used correctly can improve the color and detail in your photos. The horizon must be near the center of the filter, which is a limitation you must remember. Tiffen HT filters are among the best filters you can buy, the equal of B&W Kaeseman and they are made in the USA, a plus in my book.
