great and affordable way to fit your 82mm filter onto 72mm filter threads on your smaller lens, and you save a lot of money by just having one filter size.

use a 77-82mm step-up ring. simply attach the ring to the lens then you put your 82mm filter on it. there will be no vignette issues as the filter size bigger than the lens diameter.

question

Are there any side effects (vignetting, i think is the term used) when using the smaller 77mm filters on the larger 82mm lens?
Asked by: Steve
Steve, if I could just toss in another item. They (whoever they are) are saying that 82mm is the new 77mm. Meaning that 77mm was the largest filter size for all but the very specialized lenses. Now more and more lenses are coming out with 82mm filter sizes, So although it's not cheap or easy, going ahead and converting to 82mm filters is buying into the future. Also, concerning the step-down idea, vignetting also depends on the length of the filters' barrel, especially with the CP filters, they tend to have longer barrels.Anyway, I should not take up more of you time unless I respond to any further concerns you wish to bounce of me.
