Celestron 93432 overview

  • 1Description

Celestron engineered their Luminos 15mm Eyepiece to provide you with a comfortable 82° field of view, and made the entire series parfocal, allowing you to change it out with other Luminos eyepieces without having to adjust the focus. This allows you to spend more time viewing while reducing the chance of hitting the scope out of alignment. This model features a 7-element lens configuration and is fully multi-coated to improve image brightness and contrast. Its 1.25" diameter barrel fits the same size drawtube or accessories, and has machined filter threads to accept eyepiece filters. Made of a lightweight and durable aluminum alloy with an anodized finish, the body has a slip-resistant rubber collar, and an innovative retractable eyecup that pops up when you need it and drops down when you don't with a simple twist.

    Celestron 93432 reviews

    Luminos 15mm Eyepiece (1.25") is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value - great performance I purchased this particular eyepiece because it is the longest focal length in the Luminos range that will fit a 1.25 inch barrel. (It is easier to change like size with like size when observing.) My first reaction after a quick test was that the 82 degree field was too wide to take in at once. True, you only look at part of it at a time. Then I was watching one of the mutual occultations of Jupiter's Moons (It gives X261 on the C14)and I was delighted at how I was able to check out the other moons at the same time. They were all in the field of view and it was sharp to the edges. The contrast and eye relief is also excellent. By necessity it is a bit heavy and bulky, but not so much as the wide angle behemoths of the past.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Eyepice with an amazing FOV The Luminos Eyepieces offers a great FOV. The Eye Relief is great for eyeglass wearers. I have astigmatism and need to keep the on while viewing through the scope. Both the extremely wide Field of View, (AFOV) and the high Eye Relief make this an ideal eyepiece for those needing glasses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice wide-view eyepiece - excellent contrast and clarity I've used this 15mm Luminos several times and it is a nice addition to my set of eyepieces. I also have the 31mm and 23mm Luminos eyepieces and the 15mm is considerably smaller - due to its 1.25 inch format. It looks like their baby sister. However, the 15mm performance is on par with the others. I find the Luminos series 82 degree field of view to be larger than I can see at once, but pleasing. It's like looking through a window rather than a tube. I use it with my Celestron C6 sct with 1500mm focal length and Evolution mount. This gives 100 power which is a nice medium power for general viewing. The view of star clusters, nebulae and the lunar surface are sharp and clear. The view of the waxing 3/4 moon was excellent with mostly tack-sharp surface detail. This is a bright eyepiece so a moon filter will help when the moon is nearly full. Contrast is very good. I like this eyepiece for viewing clusters and nebulae like M42. Without filters the nebulosity appeared better than a similar Plossl. Twin stars and faint stars showed as sharp pinpoints across most of the field. I observed Jupiter and four moons which fit well within the center of the field. Some detail of Jupiter's cloud bands were visible as were 4 moons as small, very sharp dots - Impressive! Similar to my other Luminos eyepieces, the sharpness of stars and lunar surface at the edges of the field is slightly less than at the center - maybe 80% of the field is pin-point sharp with the remainder not quite as crisp. This may be due to the properties of my scope, but it does not detract from the overall quality of the view. When I see something of interest near the extreme edge of the field, I slew the scope to bring the image to near the center - similar to a peripheral view and then looking directly at it with your naked eye. This is an advantage of the wide 82 degree field - you do get to see a lot more. A slight negative is the stiffness when deploying the twist-up eyecup. The first time I used the eyepiece it was extremely stiff and I had to remove it from the diagonal to raise it up. It required substantial force. It eventually loosened somewhat after several in and out turns. The eyecup helps position the eye for best viewing, but the force required for adjustment was/is far too much. It is still a bit stiff. This is a nice wide-view eyepiece at a very attractive price. Recommended. Actually 4.5 stars due to stiffness to deploy the eyecup.
