Inferior to the Beyerdynamic velour earpads

I've had my Sony MDR-V6s for over 20 years (!) at this point, having purchased them right around 2001. After ten years, the stock earpads were crumbling and flaking, so I had to buy replacements. I replaced them with velour earpads from Beyerdynamic, made for their DT250/DT280 headphones. In fact, I bought them right here from B&H in 2011 for 20 bucks. Those velour earpads were a revelation. They made the headphones way more comfortable, especially because I wear glasses and have large-ish ears. The velour was both softer and did a better job dealing with sweat/skin oils than vinyl or leatherette pads. They also made the headphones sound better, in my memory, because they formed a better seal around my ears. Well, fast forward ANOTHER ten-plus years, to last week. I've been wearing the same MDR-V6s daily for the past three years of working from home, with the same pads from 2011. One day, I noticed that the flat foam backing had deteriorated and basically just fell out. I stuffed it back in so I could keep working, but immediately went to find a replacement. B&H no longer sells the Beyerdynamic pads, so I thought I'd give these a shot. Sadly, they're inferior in about every way. First, they're smaller than the other pads. That means they're less comfortable, but it's still acceptable to me (and better than stock). They also seem to be more cheaply made, but I guess that's to be expected because they're half the cost. The unfortunate part is that they have negatively affected the performance of the headphones. The noise isolation is noticeably worse, and the sound is weaker with reduced bass. It's not a subtle difference. As I mentioned, I wear these every day for work and listen to music and take calls, and I could immediately tell. Compared to crumbling foam, these will do the job. But I've found the Beyerdynamic pads in stock elsewhere and I've already placed the order. They're a little more than twice the cost, but well worth the upgrade. As soon as they arrive, these are going into storage as backup earpads ... assuming I can find then in another ten years when I need them.

Have a pair of Sony MDR-V6s that I had no complaints about, until the covering on the original ear cups started flaking off. These Auray Deluxe Velour earpads went on pretty easily, and are more comfortable than the original ones. I saw some other replacement pads for like $40. At $15, these are a no-brainer. I could not be more pleased with these.

The ear cups of my old Senal SMH -Series headphones were cracking and flaking, so I had to wipe the flecks of the old phones off my face after I used them. I got the deluxe velour ear pads and in a couple of minutes I replaced the old cushions. And by the way, Auray has a video that shows you the right way to do it. They're comfortable and don't get hot. Easy to install. Make sure your headphones have 1/6/40 mm drivers. Larger than that, and I don't think they'll fit. If you're using Sony Sony MDR-7506 in the studio and your talent is complaining that they're not comfortable after an hour or two, swap out the ear pads with these and the complaints will stop. A great buy for $14.

Bough these to replace the pads on my Sony MDR-7506 headphones that were all coming apart. These seem more durable, and are definitely more comfortable than the originals.

question

Will these fit Senal smh 1200?
Asked by: Anonymous
I can only say that they fit the SMH-1000 perfectly. If the SMH-1200 has the same size ear cups then yes, but I don't have that model.

question

Will this fit the Sony MDR-7509HD headphones?
Asked by: David V.
I looked at the enlarged photo on B&H website. I believe they are either the cans I have or ones just like them. I found a blog that said they are a bit tough to get on and take a bit of patience. When i put mine on I found that to be true, but they are a factory type fit and feel awesome. Very comfortable. Best of luck!!!
