Auray EPS-MDR7506 Reviews
Just reordered-worth the expense
Last time I ordered pads for my MDR-7506 phones a few years ago, I got one set of these and five sets of the basic type for two sets of headphones, and the Auray sheepskin pads outlasted all five pairs of the cheap ones and wore in better, becoming softer and even more comfortable without leaving black plastic bits on my head like the ones made from synthetic material. One thing to note is that the area that covers the flange where the pad attaches to the headphone wears faster than the part that is in contact with your head, but it turns out that this wear is only cosmetic.
Still working great after a few years
I've had these for around 4 years now and they still look and perform great. These do sound different than the stock earpads on MDR-V6's, but in a very subtle and pleasant way; they are slightly more crisp and bassy.
Love it, thank you!
Perfect!
Great replacement pads, slightly smaller than the originals
I love the replacement pads. They have more sound isolation & I haven't noticed any difference in sound quality. They are however smaller than the originals, so my ear doesn't fit quite as well, causing a bit of discomfort after wearing them for 2+hrs
Luxurious Upgrade
I've used these headphone for twenty years. Why didn't I upgrade to the leather sooner? A big improvement too around.
Smaller than MDR-7506 Pads; You're Entering a World of Pain
I really wanted to like these replacement pads for the notoriously flaky MDR-7506 pads; unfortunately, they are simply not as-advertised. The pictures make these leather replacements look like comfy Lazy-Boys for the ears. The pair I received were more akin to over-inflated inner-tubes or chocolate-covered donuts. The leather is stretched taught and has no slack as indicated by the product photos (even before I put them on the Sonys). While I admit the sheepskin seems to be of good quality, and the construction feels sturdy, the pads are approximately 90% of the MRD-7506's. As a result, the ears are no longer surrounded but bear the squeezing action of the headphone band directly, making for painful listening after as little as 15 minutes. Acoustically, they seem to isolate a bit more than the originals; the bass is a bit more noticeable. They are boomier, for lack of a better term. It's not necessarily a bad thing; I certainly prefer the additional separation from background noise. I wish I'd read Thanarath's review before purchasing. According to him, the manufacturing country of origin changed after he received his 2nd pair. I think that explains the mis-match between the appearance; perhaps they are using less leather or different sizing specifications? TL;DR - Nice leather, sturdy, but 10% smaller than MDR-7506 pads. They aren't cushy as in the photos and sit directly on the ear, causing pain. More isolation & bass than stock. Abraham Lincoln's beware.
Do yourself a favor and don't buy.
Save yourself money and a headache. I went to the length of making an account specifically to tell you to don't buy them. The pads I received are NOT as pictured as they are smaller than OEM pads. As a result of being smaller, the comfort is bad and the sound change drastically (in a bad way). The sound went from being excellent to cheap headphones quality. Yep, that bad. I put the OEM pads back on not even 15 mins in as they were that horrible. Really wish I could return them but I threw the packaging away.
Should have gotten these years ago
I've had my Sony MDR-7506 headphones for ten years or so, and the original ear-pieces flaked off a couple of years in. Not sure why I waited so long to replace them. I've seen some complaints about these being too small, and while they certainly are smaller than the OEM earpads, they're plenty comfortable for me and I had no trouble getting them on the headphones. These are my go-to monitoring and mixing headphones, and they're much more comfortable and effective with this purchase.
