question
What is the effective change in the adapted lens' focal length? E.g., for a 40mm lens, what is its effective focal length when used with the adapter?
The adapter will not change the focal length of the lens.

question
How does one deal with the focus in the rangefinder using this adapter?
As the FotodioX Minolta MD/MC Pro Lens Adapter does not have electronic contacts, and does not transmit information from the lens to the camera, autofocus is not possible when using this adapter. You will have to focus manually when using a manual-focus Minolta MD/MC mount lens on a Leica M-mount camera.
