Adventure has always presented itself as an avenue of nosy exploration into worlds I knew very little about. It was a spark of curiosity and wonder that swept me, at a very early age, into the unknown. Kentucky has many natural wonders to explore, but my favorite growing up were a set of abandoned river stone steps buried deep in my backyard, compacted by fermented leaves, slick twigs, salamanders, and clouds of mosquitos. Days were spent excavating these steps with my Mom’s garden shovel, and a paint brush, and the collection of fossilized

One of the most notable announcements from WWDC 2019, even including the reveal of the new Mac Pro, was the announcement of iOS 13 and iPadOS. Filters are common in landscape photography. They help photographers craft images that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. For example, filters can cut reflections that are impossible to remove, permit longer exposures or wider apertures, and even provide a boost to the contrast of an image. Aerial photographers using drones should understand what filters are available and which they can use to get the best possible photos and video. Drone Filters Are

If you are here I’m guessing you’ve done a time lapse or two, maybe read our introductory article or Stan Moniz’s night-specific piece, and want to see how you can make your time lapses even better. I’ll admit it, time lapses are tough. There is a ton of information you need to know about photo and video to make

Pop on a pair of (decent) sunglasses and not only are your eyes less strained, things just look better. The reason for this is likely the polarization effect. Colors may appear more saturated, bright blue skies can take on a deeper hue, and some pesky reflections just vanish. All of these can benefit certain photographs and make the circular polarizer filter one of the best—and most difficult—filters to use.  Exactly What Does a Polarizer Do? It’s both simple

Even in the crowded photography market, there are still underserved areas that deserve attention. Tamron seems to understand this better than most with its latest f/2.8 zoom for full-frame E-mount cameras, the 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD Lens, which offers excellent quality at an excellent price and in a small, lightweight package—it's also a perfect match for the much-loved

When I was asked to join the fun of B&H’s Adventure Week, I was tasked with deciding on which camera to bring. I needed to photograph everything from striking scenery to some fast-paced action, and I needed a portable system to bring on crawls up mountains and hikes over sand dunes. Maybe not the expected choice, but I opted for the brand-new Hasselblad X1D II 50C, a

"Alright, your time in flight will be approximately twelve minutes." Berty and I swallowed that weighted sentence and nervously nodded in response. Smiles were on the outside, but deep inside we were wondering how in the world we were going to make the most of those fleeting seconds in that helicopter and capture exactly what we wanted from the sky! Aerial photography can be exciting and exhilarating. But it can also come with a lot of added challenges, such as time limits, weather conditions, and—let's be real—a large expense! (Flights aren't

With the exception of sky diving or zipping yourself into a wingsuit and jumping off a cliff, flying in an open cockpit biplane is about as exhilarating as air travel gets. There’s a small windscreen, but other than that, you are one with the wind, and the taller you are, the more with wind you are. And it’s noisy—crazy noisy, but that’s the price of a genuine thrill ride.

Imagine yourself in the middle of nowhere, before sunrise, there’s a quiet around you, the stars start to fade and the light of the sun begins to bring everything to life in blue hues. There’s a magical moment that happens in between day and night. Light gets softer and the glow of the sun still affects the landscape in a beautiful way. Most people underestimate this time of day, forever chasing golden hour and the colors against the clouds as the sun sets, but this has easily become my favorite time of day to photograph. I’ve become obsessed
