Key Features
- Used for Infrared Photography
- Blocks Visible Light Up To 720nm
- Compatible with Most Digital Cameras
- Can Be Used with Infrared-Type Film
The Hoya 72mm R72 Infrared Filter is a specialized filter used for infrared photography with digital cameras and specialized infrared film. This nearly opaque filter blocks all visible light up to 720nm, enabling recording of subject matter and scenes that are not visible under normal conditions. Due to the nature of infrared photography, the filter factor for this filter is highly variable and depends largely on the ISO sensitivity in use and lighting conditions.

question
The first review showed pictures taken at different 'nm's. How do you change the 'nm' setting on the filter?
NM stands for nanometers. Infrared light starts at 700 nm and for photography extends to about 1,000 nm. There is no way to change the setting on the filter, because this is a reference to the strength of the IR light source.

What are the typical exposure times with this filter?
Unfortunately, there is no set answer to the above inquiry; the answer may vary quite a bit depending on the amount of infrared light in the scene you are photographing. Due to the nature of infrared light, filter factor and exposure compensation vary widely from visible light and depends largely on lighting conditions. It is not like a neutral density filter that reduces the light by a set amount from the original metered exposure.

question
If your sensor is not converted, can you still use this filter and still get false color images? Can you show me a color example image taken without a converted sensor?
Not really its 720nm the image will be red no other colours. you need to convert to B+WTo take a clone False color you need to take two shots of the same subject , one with the filter and one without then manipulate in PS. many many web pages on this. failing that buy a converted camera or use the real thing .......you can get a 24exp roll for 18$

question
Can I use this IR filter on a prosumer camcorder (Panasonic AG-250) with additional IR lights to get 'night vision'?
Liam, sorry I have no idea. I don't record video and don't know anything about IR lights. With my DSLR, it needs several seconds to gather enough IR light to a good exposure, and some diddling with colors temperature etc to get rid of the red cast.
