Tiffen 86mm (Coarse Thread) Circular Polarizer Filters - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polarizer is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.

If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a #25 Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm.

Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarizing filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing color saturation.

Note: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems)

This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance
Can dramatically enhance a blue sky and make the clouds more prominent
Used best at right angle to the sun
Effective with cameras that use beam splitters in the path of the TTL light meter and with AF cameras

86mm (Coarse Thread) Circular Polarizing Filter is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Quality Filter does it's job well. When adjusting amount of polarizing ring adjusts smoothly and yet stays firmly in place where you leave it. Small knob protruding from ring as a adjusting handle is a nice adition. Only drawback I could find is not being able to use the shade on the lense at the same time.I used it on my Sigma 50-500 zoom lense with Nikon mount.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for long lenses Works as you expect, polarizing effect is very effective and leaves you with great sharp image quality. The small removable handle on the rotating element of the filter is very helpful for long zooms like the Sigma 50-500 or Tamron 150-600 etc. If there is an inconvenient time to have the handle on simply remove it by unscrewing. The build feels very solid and has a good quality built to last feel. Really you can't go wrong for the price

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Circular Polarizer under $ I desperately need a circular polarizer for my new Sigma 150- 500mm APO zoom lens, which has an 86mm filter thread. ( I already found an 86mm multicoated UV-0 filter, which always comes first , for basic lens protection ). Shopping for 86mm CP's taught me they come in two categories...really cheap poorly made poorly performing filters for , say , $ --- or very expensive precision crafted filters for $ - or more. Then there was the Tiffen , for about $ . I was amazed at the quality of the glass and its performance - zero loss of sharpness, good neutral color. The construction was fabulous...very rugged, easy turning mechanism , a convenient short handle ( removable) , the filter threads were totally smooth . This filter should last a lifetime. The Tiffen 86mm circular polarizer has a very high quality to price ratio. Strongly recommended.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A lot of extra work I cannot use the lens hood with this filter being on my lens. Each time I need to use it I have to take off my filter to make the lens hood fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Quality I was very impressed with the optical quality of this filter. Worked extremely well in reducing glare at a car show I was at. Saved many a shot by being sble to eliminate sun glare off the fenders right out of camera. Saved quite a bit of time in post processing. Now I am looking to replace my other filters like Neutral Density with ones of Tiffen quality

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Flat Glass Works like it should. You can by more expensive brands and get the same results. Can buy 2 or 3 tiffins for the price of one of more expensive brands with in my opinion no better results. If broken its not 200 or 300 bucks some where around $100

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Real value for money I needed an 86mm polarizing filter to complement my Pentax 150-450mm. I usually only buy B&W, but the cost this time was too high, so I settled on the Tiffen. Great build quality and even comes with it's own usable soft case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the Money... Actually Worth MORE!! A quality 500mm full frame lense will quickly expose the flaws in a filter. This Tiffen is as you would hope... Perfect with no adverse optical issues. Thanks Tiffen and Thank you B&H nice product for the money!
