Tiffen 49CP overview

  • 1Description

Tiffen 49mm Circular Polarizer Filters - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polarizer is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.

If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a #25 Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm.

Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarizing filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing color saturation.

Note: Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems)

This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance
Can dramatically enhance a blue sky and make the clouds more prominent
Used best at right angle to the sun
Effective with cameras that use beam splitters in the path of the TTL light meter and with AF cameras

    Tiffen 49CP reviews

49mm Circular Polarizing Filter is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I purchased this polarizer for my new Sony NEX 7 interchangable lens camera. The first time I took it out for a test run, I was walking around a small lake near my home when I noticed a snake swimming through the water. The angle of the sun would have made this shot very difficult because of the reflection. But since I had the polarizer, I made a quick adjustment and the glare dissapeared. Perfect picture! It did exactly what it was meant to do. I have not had any problems with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Polarizing Filter This is a nice filter for the money. I have taken several winter sky photos and pleased with the result. Wish it had an alignment dot like one I had 25 years ago in the film days - made it quicker to align. Quality seems very good. Just getting back into photography in the digital world - not counting point and shoots and IPhones!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product to own. With this filter you can eliminate glare on water, metal objects such as cars, darken skies, make skies bluer, remove window glare etc. This filter works just as it should and I try to keep one in my photo bag always.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for Bought this to get rid of reflections off water while on a boat trip. The filter works well enough, mounts easily and definitely doesn't hurt your wallet. The construction of the ring isn't the most solid and the optics aren't anything to look at, but this filter does it's job and it does it at a ridiculously low price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dirty, show signs of having been used. I gave 5 stars rating in the beginning. However, when I turn to the back the filter, I am shocked. I found some oil and mold on the inner side of the filter, show cleaning signs in circular direction, those oils and mold looks like a circle. I am a careful photographer, I won't touch my filter's glass. I don't want to clean it because I think those oils and molds have been staying on the inner side for a long time. Very disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again and again Before I purchased this product I contacted Tiffen and explained my problem, ---------- at Tiffen, went out of his way to explain and help a novice photographer. I was having excessive reflected light where part of image was blown out. He recommended circular polarizing filter which solved my problem. I am pleased with the results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good quality filter at a fair price I received this filter as a gift, and just installed it on my Sony 49 mm lens. It installed easily, and I was able to easily install a UV filter over it. I took it out to shoot some photos after a snow storm, and it worked very well at cutting glare from shots that include flowing and still water.
