Manfrotto Befree overview

  • 1Description

Sporting a 17.6 lb load capacity at a weight of only 3.4 lb, this red Befree Advanced Travel Tripod from Manfrotto is a robust support option that can serve as a convenient travel companion for professional photographers and passionate hobbyists alike. It is made of aluminum alloy and reaches a maximum height of 59.1" with its column extended, folding down to 15.7" in length for simplified transport in its included carrying case.

Each leg of the Befree Advanced is composed of four sections, which can be adjusted and secured in seconds thanks to the M-lock twist locks that operate with a simple 90° turn. A side-pull selector allows you to set up the tripod at three different angle configurations, enabling low angle shooting with the simple push of a button. Complementing the legs is an equally sturdy center ball head, which offers a dedicated knob for panoramic movement as well as a friction control knob for precise control over the tension during use. The final element is a quick release plate, which offers dual compatibility for RC2 and Arca-type compatible systems, except for the Manfrotto 804-3W and MH804-3W tripod heads.

An Easy Link attachment is available at the top portion of the leg section, and allows you to connect compatible accessories such as flashes or reflectors. This enables you to use the tripod as a support system and reduce the amount of gear you need to carry while travelling. Rubberized feet are used to avoid skidding and help keep the Befree Advanced stable in most types of terrain. Finally, an integrated hook found at the bottom can be used to add a weight and increase the stability of your tripod when shooting in more difficult conditions.

  • Weighs 3.4 lb, can hold up to 17.6 lb of gear

    Manfrotto Befree reviews

Befree Advanced Travel Aluminum Tripod with 494 Ball Head (Twist Locks, Red) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I think I found my travel tripod I've been looking for a travel tripod for my Fuji X-T2 system for quite some time that wouldn't break the bank. I still have my original BeFree tripod. Although it weighs almost the same as this model, it is rated for only 8.8lbs. I didn't like the original BeFree's flimsy single knob ball head or the flip locks. I also tried the Vanguard Veo 2, which I actually really like, but had issues with the ball head. The panning knob just fell off when I tighten it up on my first trip out. Also, although the ball head was arca-swiss compatible, I could pull my camera out of the ball head with moderate force. This definitely shouldn't have happened. Anyway, back to this BeFree Advanced tripod ... The weight is perfect for me. The ball head seems fine for now, especially since I switched to an arca-swiss compatible clamp. The only thing about the ball head that irks me just a bit is that the friction knob turns so easily. Because it is located right at the main knob, it is very easily tighten/loosen unintentionally. I love the new design with the twist lock, but that's a personal preference. The construction itself is great and sturdy. The only thing that I'm a little weary about is the plastic tripod collar and it seems like leg locks are made of plastics as well. I only got it for a week, so I cannot say for certain whether these are weak spots or not. Only time will tell. Overall, this is probably my travel tripod for a while. Good job Manfrotto for the update.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality product, easy to use Purchased this travel tripod for use with my Olympus OM-D mirrorless camera. The quality of the tripod is impressive and it's very easy to setup and use. I've found it very stable when taking photos. The Advanced model is a well thought out design with nice improvements over the standard Befree version.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy, quick, makes life easy On my first outing with the BeFree Advanced I found myself on a cold windy beach in New Jersey. It was a snap to set up, was extremely sturdy in the wind, both of which saved my already cold hands. It was also a snap to change the leg angles which made shooting under a pier as enjoyable as it can be!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect little travel tripod Purchased this tripod to have a smaller lighter option to travel with and I love it. Small enough and light enough to fit in my luggage without going over the weight limit. It is easy to carry and quick to set up. Offers a good stable platform even for my 5D III even more so for a lighter mirrorless camera. I swapped out the quick release plate to a sunwayfoto Arca Swiss style to use the Sunwayfoto L bracket and it made for the perfect combination. Just what I was looking for.
