Manfrotto continues to expand the breadth and depth of its Befree line with the release of new tripod legs and heads, with versions tailored for photo and video enthusiasts. The Befree Advanced is aimed at professional photographers looking for a strong yet compact support system, and is paired with the 494 Ball Head and Quick Release Plate, which is also available separately. A black version with traditional lever leg locks is available, as well as red, blue, and black models with twist leg locks. Vloggers and videographers, on the other hand, can enjoy the new version of the Befree Live, which is a video tripod that runs in parallel with its predecessor of equal name, and comes with an updated leg design, 8.8-lb weight capacity, and retains the same Fluid Video Head for smooth movement.
Specifically designed for traveling, a redesigned spider allows the Befree Advanced to hold up to 17.6 lb of gear, double the amount of the previous model, with nearly no increase in its weight (3.6 lb for the lever version, or 3.4 lb for the twist lock versions) or its 15.75" folded length. It also retains its maximum height of 59" with the center column fully extended, and 52.4" with the center column retracted. This sturdier build allows Manfrotto to add an Easy Link port for attaching accessories such as lights and reflectors, a feature from which the Befree Live video tripod also benefits. Both additions have significantly increased the versatility of the tripod while keeping it compact, a critical characteristic for people who often travel with their gear.
All models come equipped with a sliding leg-angle selector, which can be activated with a single finger and gives the Befree Advanced three different angle configurations. Except for the Befree Advanced with lever locks previously mentioned, the tripods feature twist locks that borrow the efficient design present on the 190go! version. These locks engage with a simple 90-degree turn and allow you to set up the tripod in seconds, meeting the needs of those who require speed and stability.
The 494 Ball Head can support up to 17.6 lb of equipment and is designed with functionality in mind, offering dedicated knobs for panoramic movement and friction control. Perhaps its most unique feature is its quick-release plate, which is compatible with RC2 Manfrotto and Arca-type attachments. This allows photographers to use your camera on either system without hassle, and is sure to please those that regularly use more than one tripod. Take note, however, that this plate is not compatible with the Manfrotto 804-3W and MH804-3W heads.
With improved load capacity and quicker operation, the new Manfrotto tripods are successful in treading the line between compact size and stable support that is required by many industry professionals.
