Godox AD400Pro Overview

For Nikon photographers, the Godox AD400Pro Witstro All-In-One Outdoor Flash with XProN TTL Trigger Kit from B&H bundles the 400Ws battery-powered monolight with a dedicated radio trigger for Nikon TTL flash systems.

Godox AD400Pro Witstro All-in-One Outdoor Flash

Featuring a 2.4 GHz wireless X system with a range of up to 328', the AD400Pro Witstro All-in-One Outdoor Flash from Godox is a versatile tool compatible with several TTL systems including Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Olympus, and Panasonic options. It offers up to 400Ws with nine steps of output power, ranging from 1/1 to 1/256, and comes with a powerful 21.6V/2600mAh lithium-ion battery pack that provides up to 390 full-power flashes in outdoor situations and location shooting. Alternatively, you can run the monolight on AC power with an optional adapter.

The AD400Pro Witstro features a high-speed sync mode that works with shutter speeds up to 1/8000 second, offering flash durations from 1/240 to 1/12,820 second. Another unique setting is its Stable Color Temperature Mode, which tightly controls color to keep temperature changes within ±75K across the entire power range. Despite these impressive characteristics, it manages to keep recycling times low at 0.01-0.9 seconds to capture peak action and every fleeting gesture. A 30W LED modeling lamp is onboard to help preview how the light is falling on your subject.

  • 2.4 GHz wireless system with a range of 328' (100m), featuring five controllable slave groups and 32 channels
  • Removable handle and stand mount for space-saving packing
  • Compatible with Nikon, Canon, Fujifilm, Sony, Olympus, and Panasonic TTL systems

Godox XProN TTL Wireless Flash Trigger for Nikon Cameras

Using the 2.4 GHz Godox X wireless radio system, the XProN TTL Wireless Flash Trigger can be used to effectively and reliably trigger flashes from up to 328' away, and when used with compatible flashes and receivers users will have the added benefit of remote power control. This model is compatible with Nikon's i-TTL system, including support for high-speed sync up to 1/8000 second, and offers advanced control options along with settings for working with system-specific features. For ensuring maximum reliability and control, users can set up 16 groups on one of 32 channels and can then access 99 wireless ID settings for limiting interference from other nearby systems.

In addition to basic manual and TTL control modes, other settings are available, including stroboscopic flash and second-curtain sync. Users can adjust flash exposure compensation from -3 to +3 EV as well as wirelessly control the modeling light, zoom setting, and more. For using the XProN with other camera systems there is a 2.5mm sync port that supports triggering via a wired connection. Also, a USB Type-C port is present for firmware updates and the devices run on two AA batteries for convenience.

Battery won't charge for the first time

New out of the box and the battery won't charge at all. Frustrating!! There's a reason to spend the $$ and go with a high end brand like Profoto! It will work right off the bat and not put you in a bind.

Terrible Design Support for Bowens Mount

Starting with what I liked about this product based upon first impressions before sending this back for a refund. The price of this kit makes it affordable to have a battery powered flash head. I loved the carry case for the kit. This isn't a temporary case just for shipping, but for regular storage and transport. It even comes with a removable shoulder strap for carrying the case. The problem though with this case is that there isn't a bulb cover if you want to store with the Bowens mount still attached and bulb plugged into the head. Additionally, if you want to leave the Bowens mount and bulb attached to the flash head, there is no where to store the default reflector. This requires you to take the time to unscrew and remove the Bowens mount. The fact that I have to use tiny screws with a small Allen wrench in order to attach or remove the Bowens mount is the biggest turn off. My light modifiers all use the Bowens mount so I want to leave the mount on when stored, but since the case won't store the standard reflector separately and lack of bulb cover is a terrible experience. The whole point of this battery operated setup is because I travel to clients and want to leave the Bowens mount attached while in transport. With this design, I either have to spend 10+ minutes at the beginning and end of a photo shoot to revert the setup back to the out-of-box configuration so I can store everything. Or, I leave the Bowens mount attached and have to then leave the default reflector at the studio. If I do this though, I'm still left without any sort of bulb protector when the head is in the case. In order for me to feel comfortable keeping this kit the attaching and removing the Bowens mount would need to be accomplished without needing to use screws. Plus, the storage case would need to have a way to keep the default reflector stored during transport. My default behavior after attaching the Bowens mount was to reattach the standard reflector, but the setup does not support this capability. If this type of behavior existed, then I'd be more likely to keep and use this kit. I was so excited to get this kit, but I'm now heartbroken.

This is a great strobe for location work. Easy to set up and control from the Godox XPro transceiver. The battery life isn't great and so I'll be buying a second battery for peace of mind. It's probably on par with other similar lights.

Amazing light, so versatile and effective!!!

I know people are jumping on the AD600 or AD300 but the AD400 is a do-all for all your strobe needs. I especially love the ease of use, especially when using high-speed sync. (A footnote, be sure to get the right sized Octobox or reflector to go with this light, it will make a world of difference.)

Great light - Terrible Batteries

By Mike

I bought one of these for my studio and have used it every day for at least 2 years. The light and functionality of it is great, but for a long term or reliable solution, I am not sure, because of the battery. Twice now, I have left it unplugged and not charging over the weekend. Then, when I come back the studio, the battery has completely been drained and unable to re-charge. What makes things worse, is that this light can not function without a charged battery. You can not plug it in and shoot with a dead battery, it has to have at least a little charge for it to work. So, with a dead battery, this light is a paper weight. I thought that maybe it was a one time black swan event, so I bought a second battery and 6 months later, the same thing happened. I was accidentally left unplugged over the weekend and when we came back, dead as a doornail and not able to recharge. To add to this, it is easy to have it accidentally become unplugged because of the way the charger is set up. The cord comes in two pieces and they are constantly becoming disconnected. This is a problem and Godox is aware of it. Even if I have a back-up battery, they are not reliable enough to use as a professional. Can you imagine if you didn't plug your computer in for a few days and then the battery died. Forever. I do not recommend. Selling it.

Bright enough

It's bright enough for just about anything. I did a large group with 15 at the beach with intense awful garbage light and I was able to salvage the shoot only because of this light.

This item comes with a 2 year warranty from B&H that the battery would be included under that. The warranty will cover any factory malfunction, but not any accidental damage. For accidental damage please look into our Allstate Plans.
