The Hoya 46mm Neutral Density (NDX8) 0.9 Filter has several uses and offers the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the film. They have no effect on color balance.

Multi-coated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.

Neutral Density filters have four main uses

To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high speed films, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars
To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background
To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situations
To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure

Neutral Density Factors

2x = ND.3 (exposure adjustment = 1 stop, reduces ISO 1/2)
4x = ND.6 (exposure adjustment = 2 stops, reduces ISO 1/4)
8x = ND.9 (exposure adjustment = 3 stops, reduces ISO 1/8)
As one of the premier filter manufacturers, Hoya filters continue to made from quality glass assuring the photographer clear, sharp and accurate images
Hoya filters consistently provide even color all the way through the filter; All surfaces are ground and polished to specific thickness and tolerances

46mm Neutral Density (NDX8) 0.9 Filter is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Does the job / some flaring This filter is well built and produces nice colors and little to no color shift (though I'm not a pixel peeper). However, as with all filters I've used, there is a tendency to produce some flare. Using my OMD with its EVF I get a live preview of when flare will be present. As I move the camera around, the flare moves. The bare lens itself (Panaleica 25mm 1.4) is very flare resistent so this is the downside of introducing a filter over an impeccable piece of glass.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ' just what I needed! I bought this filter to use on my Panasonic/Leica 25mm f1.4 lens. It allows me to shoot with the aperture wide open in bright sunlight and make use of its shallow depth of field. I keep Hoya multicoated filters on all my lenses, with which I've shot pictures for several books.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality ND filters made in Japan Hoya ND filters are high quality for the money. It does not degrade the image quality of your shots. This neutral density allows you to shoot at wide aperture without having to use fast shutter speeds, which opens up the door for extra creativity.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from make sure it says "multi coated" If it doesn't say, "Multi-Coated (HMC)," it's the wrong one. This is the one you want. Great quality for the price. You'll get better with Formatt, but at a much larger price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent nd filter, great price I really like this ND filter because it virtually eliminates the ghosting/flaring effects on my Sigma 19mm f2.8 lens. Highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great filter. Doesn't seem to change the color that much. It produces ugly looking flare when shooting into the light, but all filters do that.
