Hoya A-49ND8X-GB overview

  • 1Description

The Hoya 49mm Neutral Density (NDX8) 0.9 Filter has several uses and offers the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the film. They have no effect on color balance.

Multi-coated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.

Neutral Density filters have four main uses

To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high speed films, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars
To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background
To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situations
To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure

Neutral Density Factors

2x = ND.3 (exposure adjustment = 1 stop, reduces ISO 1/2)
4x = ND.6 (exposure adjustment = 2 stops, reduces ISO 1/4)
8x = ND.9 (exposure adjustment = 3 stops, reduces ISO 1/8)
As one of the premier filter manufacturers, Hoya filters continue to made from quality glass assuring the photographer clear, sharp and accurate images
Hoya filters consistently provide even color all the way through the filter; All surfaces are ground and polished to specific thickness and tolerances

    Hoya A-49ND8X-GB reviews

    49mm Neutral Density (NDX8) 0.9 Filter is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 17.
    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Filter I am not a huge Hoya fan as when it comes to UV and CPL filters there are better value alternatives out there, however this is a fantastic filter (especially for the price). Very well coated and produces no color shifts!

    Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as expected, slightly long. Can't beat it for the price in that most filters I've bought that are this inexpensive degrade image quality at a noticeable amount. This one is essentially clear and unnoticeable. Only downside for me is it's slightly longer/wider than I'd like to the point of causing a fair amount of vignetting on my Sonnar 55/1.8; if you're worried about vignetting it might be worth the extra money for a thinner filter.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life Saver Used this to shoot and a larger aperture for greater separation with my subject to the background. All this done in 110 degree, blazing hot and bright desert sun. You will get sunburned when shooting in these conditions, but my film isnt over-exposed. Ruthless. but worked like a charm.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job very well Often I have the need the use a slower shutter speed or wider aperture than the light will allow - adding this filter does just that. Hoya is and has always been the filter manufacture of choice for me. I am never disappointed with the quality of their product.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value filter Not the most expensive high-quality nd filter available, but much better than low-quality dirt cheap ones. I use it for video to get a shallow depth of field outside in sunlight and it works well for me. Video quality is not negatively affected while using this filter. I also have other Hoya nd filters in various sizes and have never been disapointed with them.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seems to work well These are necessary with Blackmagics and other Cinema gear. That built in IR is one less filter you need to attach. Unfortunately I am using it on cameras that do not need IR cut so I'm no sir if that is affecting the color rendition in any way since IR absorbs certain colors

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from My pictures look great! The 49mm Neutral Density (NDX8) 0.9 Filter did a great job of filtering out light. My pictures look great!

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Indispensible for video A must have if you want to shoot video with a large aperture and slow shutter speed for a cinematic look.
