Tiffen 72mm Circular Polarizer Filters - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. You can use a circular polarizer with this lens.
To check the necessary size here are a few helpful tips:
Refer to the "Specifications" section in your lens manual
Visit the manufacturers website, find the exact lens you have, check the specifications there
Look at the end of your lens for a 2 digit # with a circle that has a slash through it, that is the symbol for diameter and is your filter size
Look on the inside of your lens cap, the lens cap size is usually indicted here and is the same size as your filter.

Can I use this filter on Sony HX300? Is it threaded?
It is threaded and should fit any 55 mm lense. I'm not familiar with the Sony hx300 but generally the filter fits lenses. Not nessisarily fixed cameras that doesn't have interchangeable lenses
