Key Features
- Combination UV and Circular Polarizer
- 1.5-3x Filter Factor, 0.6-1.6 Stops
- Helps to Eliminate Reflections and Glare
- Reduces Haze in Landscapes
The Hoya 58mm HRT Circular Polarizer UV Filter is designed to block ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight while also helping to eliminate reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A filter with polarizing capability arranges and filters this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

question
What are the pros and cons of this filter being non-coated?
While it may be more expensive for coatings, they help protect the filter from dust, water, stains and scratch-resistant. Coatings also help with maintaining contract and color fidelity throughout the image.

question
I am thinking of buying this filter or the B&W equivalent which is the best and better by how much? Thanks
Hoya and B+W both make some of the best filters on the market. B+W filters are among the highest quality filters available, especially the Kaesemann circular polarizer http://bhpho.to/1lEaCgA, which features Kaesemann foils, helping to provide the greatest amount of efficiency and color neutrality.
