The 58mm Carl ZEISS T* UV Filter from ZEISS is a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. No additional coloration or contrast effects are provided, rendering a clean and natural appearance.

A UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

The T* anti-reflective coating helps to reduce reflections on the filter's surface and promote a better light transmission for high quality imagery. The filter ring is designed with a slim profile to allow its use on wide angle lenses, but front filter threads are still available for the use of additional filters.

58mm Carl ZEISS T* UV Filter is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from allows use of Zeiss lens hood This filter is very well built and seems excellent optically, as you'd expect. But other top filters share these characteristics. What for me made this filter worth the annoyingly high price is that it is sized to match precisely the barrel of the Zeiss 35mm f/2 ZF.2 lens, thus making it possible to mount and remove the hood over the filter. Reviews of other top filters often note that they are a little too large for the Zeiss hoods to clear. I doubt that I'd pay the premium over other top filters for use on non-Zeiss lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential for 50mm F1.4 Zeiss lenses need Zeiss filters! All my Canon L lenses have B+W filters. Unfortunately the 58mm B+W does not work with the Zeiss 50mm F1.4 (Hood will not attach) Previous reviewer was not happy that Zeiss filters were not made in Germany. Their lenses are not made there either. They are all made in Japan. Quality wise that really is not that much of a big deal. Japan makes some of the finest optics in the world. This filter does what it is suppossed to do, mainly not affecting image quality!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice filter Previously had a very good B+W filter on my Distagon 35/2 and was happy. Couldn't help but buy this one to replace it. Seems to be even better, in terms of contrast, but I might be convincing myself of this due to the expensive purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zeiss uv filter This is my first uv filter made by Zeiss. Truthfully, I bought the Zeiss brand filter because of their reputation for quality. PRO: - There are plenty of front threads for a Nikon lens cap to sit flush - T* coating - Zeiss quality CON: - Price? Nope, no one made me purchase this filter.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Filter I would have liked to know where this product was made at. If I would have known that it was made in Japan and not Germany, I would have bought another company. When I buy a brand name and know that it is German, I know most of there products are made in Germany. Now knowing that they make some of there products in Japan I will look closer. It is a filter so overall it will do the job I bought for but when I saw Zeiss just figured it was German made.
