Vello RS-C2II overview

  • 1Description

Whether you are shooting in the studio or outdoors, the Vello RS-C2II Wired Remote Switch provides photographers using select Canon cameras with a 3-pin connection with a simple way to control exposures and an easy-to-use tool to create more "keepers". The device is larger and more comfortable to use than many other remote devices, with a thick, sturdy cord.

The RS-C2II is compatible with autofocusing, continuous shooting or single image capture, and long exposures. It will autofocus on a half press of the button and trigger the shutter with a full press. Also, users can press the button and slide it forward to lock it for long exposures. Since you can trigger exposures without touching the camera, you will capture sharp, blur-free images. Additionally, the unit does not require batteries as it draws its power from the camera, making it an extremely useful tool to keep in your studio or gear bag.

    Vello RS-C2II reviews

RS-C2II Wired Remote Switch for Select Canon 3-Pin Cameras is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 254.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from "Nothing Broken Nothing Missing" I recently purchased a number of small items from B+H Photo. They included the SanDisk 64Gb Extreme Pro Sdxc Uhs-1 memory card; two Vello Rs-C2ii wired remote switches for a Canon 5D-M4; a Sensei 82mm rubber lens hood; a Sensei 95mm, 82mm, and 77mm center pinch snap-on lens caps. Everything works perfectly. The SanDisk card capacity is over 1,400 raw files with the 5D-M4 and I have not had any issues with its write speed. The release cables are simple and much less money than the official Canon version. (I bought two in case I lost one.) The rubber lens shade was put on the Canon 135mm f/4 TSE and I did not see any vignetting with full shifts. (I did not try a full shift with full tilt, however, so that may be an issue.) The rubber lens shade actually takes a 77mm lens cap and I was surprised that I did not see any vignetting. Finally, the lens caps are really nice. The spring tension feels very strong and I don't expect them to inadvertently fall off. The shipping was free and everything arrived the next day after I placed the order. Thanks, B&H!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor fit leading to loose connection The fit on this Vello remote is extremely poor. The connector does not seat deeply unlike the official RS-80N3, and it's difficult to tell if it is properly plugged in. Furthermore, even when the connector is pushed in, it can become loose leaving you pushing the button and wondering why your camera isn't taking pictures. Not worth the hassle of using. Would not buy another Vello remote based on this experience.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gets The Job Done Bought this a couple weeks ago and have been using it all the time. Does exactly what it says on the tin with no fuss. My only complaint is that it gets locked in the hold position easily, so I recommend disabling continuous drive while using it. The worst that can happen is you take an extra shot before unlocking it. While the plug could stand to have a slightly tighter fit, it's not problematic in regular use and I haven't had it fall out yet, even in portrait orientation. Use this cable release with the camera on a tripod in live view or mirror lockup mode and you will see a notable increase in your ability to get critically sharp shots. Easy to recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Skeptical due to price. Works great for long exposures.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great way to capture long exposures Does everything its supposed to do. -1 star for fit and finish. It doesn't snap cleanly into the plug on my 7D. But it is at a great price and an essential tool for anyone shooting below hand held shutter. (1/60 sec)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product on a budget This remote switch works relatively well for its price. It does not require a battery, which is always a plus. The control itself is simple; just a button with a slider for long exposures. The only problem I have had with this product is that the slider does not fully lock in the off position. There are times when I want to access my camera after a shot and it would be unresponsive because the switch button was still half pressed. Overall, it is a good product on a low budget. Would recommend.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from No success This is an updated review. After getting the 1st RS-C211, which didn't stay connected to my 5DMarkII, I gave it a poor review. Vello was more than responsive, quickly apologizing and sending me a new unit. I was very pleased with their dedication to the consumer and the response. Unfortunately, the second unit also didn't stay connected to the camera in a way that would allow it to operate. In order for it to fire consistently, the cable would have to be held still or I would have to hold the connection to the camera manually. I purchased the Canon release and it snaps into place and I can move the cable all I want and it stays put. The downside, I think it costs way too much. I hope Vello corrects the C211 connector.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally one that works! I've had the Canon release and a couple from Hong Kong, and they all popped out of the port on the camera, no matter how hard I pushed them in. This one has a wide collar that holds it tight, and I even had to tug it to get it out! It's because unlike all the others which have very narrow collars (see red arrow below), the Vello has one that's about 1/4 wide (see blue arrow below). I bought a couple to have a backup on travel shoots.
