Vello RS-S1II Overview

Whether shooting in the studio or outdoors, the Vello RS-S1II Wired Remote Switch provides photographers using select Sony and Minolta cameras with a simple way to control exposures and an easy-to-use tool to create more "keepers". The device is larger and more comfortable to use than many other remote devices, with a thick, sturdy cord.

The RS-S1II is compatible with autofocusing, continuous shooting or single image capture, and long exposures. It will autofocus on a half press of the button and trigger the shutter with a full press. Also, users can press the button and slide it forward to lock it for long exposures. It can be used with cameras that feature live-view mode. Since exposures can be triggered without touching the camera, sharp, blur-free images can be captured. The RS-S1II does not require batteries as operates using the cameras own power, making it an extremely useful tool to keep in a studio or gear bag.

Works great with my older Sony SLT-A37 and didn't break the bank. I just needed a simple remote shutter release and this was it.

The remote itself works very well. Focus and shoot- just what I wanted. The cord is not as long as I would like for what I do but it is very workable for standing near the camera. Using on Sony a77ii.

I purchased this wired remote switch for use with my Sony Alpha A900 camera body. This camera has nine drive modes selectable from its menu. The problem is that all of the modes are embedded within the same menu drop-down list. This setup precludes the user from using more than one drive mode at a time. One can choose Self-timer OR Mirror Lockup OR Wireless Remote OR Single Shot (with the shutter button), etc. In the interest of attaining the sharpest possible images I wanted to be able to select Mirror Lockup AND Wireless Remote. Not possible. If I selected Mirror Lockup I would have to trip the shutter with the camera body shutter button. :-( Now with this wired remote I can select Mirror Lockup from the menu and trip the shutter (without touching the camera) with the wired remote. I'm a happy camper. :-) Sharper images! Now all I have to work on is composition and being in the right place at the right time (i.e. on site before the sun rises). :-)

I use these to trip the shutter for astrophotography. So far I have had two of these remotes fail on me, but they are so inexpensive, I usually keep two or three on the shelf. Perhaps I would be better off spending more on the Sony product, but so far, its working out.

If you are using your Sony on a tripod or some form of camera stand whether in the studio or out on location, this switch is having the cameras shutter release button on a pendant. Half down for auto focus and whatever other auto functions you are using, and fully down to make the exposure. You can even lock the button down for long time exposures. I would never be without mine.

No, it would not be compatible, as the two cameras have two different remote release connections. The A99 is currently only compatible with the Sony RM-VPR1 Remote Control with Multi-terminal Cable for Select Sony Cameras, B&H# SORMVPR1, as there is currently no third-party alternative for this remote connection.

It's very useful to bulb and long time pictures, using a tripod.My camera is an A-100. I cannot assure it will work with your brand new camera. I really hope I do work, because I want to buy a 77. ;-)Best reggards.
