Hoodman HEYENRG reviews

Glasses Model Hoodeye Eyecup for Nikon Round Eyepiece Models is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 44.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Big,Bulky, Non-rotating Since I recently purchased a new pair of glasses, and not wanting to scratch the lens of the glasses, I thought this eyecup would be a perfect addition to my Nikon D800. The description of the eyecup notes that it can be rotated to any position depending on your dominant eye. Actually once it is threaded into the camera body and locked it will not rotate at all, the rubber eyecup and the threaded member seem to be an integral unit. Thanks to B& H's superior return policy, I was able to exchange it for the Nikon DK-19 rubber eye cup (as shown in the picture below)which turned out to be the perfect solution for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hoodman Eyepiece I shoot a lot of sports photography and wear glasses. Because of that eyecups are a must for me. I have Hoodman Eyepiece cups on a Nikon D600, D700 and recently this model for the D4. They are excellent and have been great for the high amount of use they get. The only issue I have is this seems to overlap more on the D4 back screen than on my other two frames. I periodically will check while shooting and I have to lift the bottom of the cup up a little to see the full screen. Other than that I would have given the product 5 stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A compramise I use this product on my Nikon D800 Pros: Installation was a breeze and took all of 30 seconds. It does not cause my glasses to get all marked up the way my previous viewer did (large circular rubber eyecup). The Hoodman Eyecup contacts the edge of my glasses frame instead of the my glasses lens (and still manages to block the light out. I wear medium/small frames so I can't say how this product would work with large eye glass frames. When I do use shoot without glasses it feels lovely wrapped and moulded around my eye and temple/cheek area (I am a woman). Con: I would have loved to order one for my other Nikon body (D610) but Hoodman does not make one for that body. I ended up ordering Vello ESN-DK23 Eyeshade for my Nikon D610 instead. It is similar but smaller, firmer but is better than nothing. Due to it's size, it blocks the top of LCD screen. You can gently fold and hold the Hoodman Eyecup up to see 100% though. Less 'Chimping' in the end! I quickly got used to it on my first shoot with it installed. It does add to the profile of the camera body which needs to be somewhat considered when packing your gear up. It is soft so it would easily lay flat when pressed against the insides of a camera bag.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not worth the wait I was in the NY store and they had to ship these too me. So once I got home I was able to test them. They are ok with glasses and very good with no glasses as the large cup seals out the light. I am using these on Nikon round eye piece cameras and the threads on these are not very good as they were difficult to thread on and I was worried they might be destroying the socket on my view finder. Once installed they have a little movement so you can position them a little. Overall I think you need to try before you buy as they might not work for you.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Excellent - BUT! Excellent - used on the D800 in terms of comfort and ease of use. But I noticed a downfall. The eye piece has a piece of plastic that reflects back an image even when your eye is pressed all the way up to the finder. Oddly enough of things that to my lower right (not even behind me) so this reflection ghosts itself over your actual image in the finder (not in your final image). So sometimes you think you're getting some flare in the lens for example - but its just the ghosting image in the viewfinder only. In the end decided to return the product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good useful accessory I purchased the eyecup for my new camera because it was very useful with eyeglasses when using my previous Nikon. Unfortunately the threads on the new eyecup would not screw onto the camera. I contacted Hoodman and they sent me a replacement which did fit properly. Hoodman admitted they were having quality assurance issues with this product so be aware of the possible problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hoodeye Eyecup for Nikon I began using this eyecup on my D4 a few weeks ago. To install it I had to use pliers to loosen the ring surrounding the viewfinder. Once on, I had to adjust to my personal preferences. Once I did, I have been glad to have it. It does help reduce sun glare when shooting, and I am always shooting with glasses on, so it was worth the investment. One little glitch: when reviewing photos, the eyecup is so large that it obscures the upper part of the LCD. As a result, I have to view the LCD from a slight angle.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Bad - Not Great Does what it is supposed to, but your eye has to be perfectly centered to see the entire viewfinder image.
