Kinotehnik LCDVF3C overview

  • 1Description

The LCDVF3C 3.2" LCD Viewfinder for Canon DSLR Cameras from Kinotehnik is an optical viewfinder used to shoot either photos or videos with better camera control, and view of 3.2" LCDs. It is an essential accessory that enables photographers to take advantage of the HD video features of Canon's EOS 5D Mark III, Mark IV, and EOS-1D X DSLR cameras.

At the heart of the LCDVF3C is an achromatic lens pair that consists of two optical components vacuum-cemented together to form a lens which is computer optimized to correct for chromatic aberrations. Its magnetic interface allows rapid mounting and removal without any wear and tear on the camera. All you need to do is apply the adhesive-covered thin metal frame to your camera body and from then on, it's a simple click-on / click-off solution to attach and remove the viewfinder.

    Kinotehnik LCDVF3C reviews

LCDVF3C 3.2" LCD Viewfinder for Canon DSLR Cameras is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 55.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from prefer over zacuto I had the zacuto system on 5DmkII and found it to be cumbersome. The mount was a hassle and SHARP (scratched a couple table tops with it). So when I switched to the mkIII I tried this and immediately preferred. The idea of mounting adhesive to my shiney new camera was not appealing, but in practice it makes the viewfinder much more manageble than the base mount that the zacuto has. It gets right out of the way when you need it too and leaves your mkIII light and unburdened. My only criticism is that lacks a lens cover. Though it includes a case, something to protect the lens when its mounted or on the neckstrap would be nice.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great product but.... This LCD Viewfinder is well built. I've done video sessions with it. An LCD viewfinder is a must if you want accurate focusing and composition. However the lack of diopter is unfortunate. When I do still photo - and then work with my Hoodman viewfinder - I've made the ajustements on my camera and viewfinder so that I don't need to bring out my reading glasses. Not having a diopter on the Kinotechnik model made me doubt at times about my focus. Obviously the problem is not with the viewfinder but the videographer behind but a diopter would have been an important + and made a more enjoyable working experience. Yes I would recommend this to a friend who owns a Canon 5d mark III and shoots video like me but with the above caution.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kinotehnik Viewfinder is Very Good I bought this viewfinder to help me learn about video. Its nearly impossible to see the on-camera viewfinder to focus for video and live view on the Canon 5D Mark III. I have a Microsoft Surface that I use for tethering to Lightroom, but it's too big for run and gun video. this viewfinder works pretty good so far. The quality is very nice and the magnet snaps into place with authority. I'm using it with the Vello Snap on LCD protector. I just mounted the metal plate on the screen protector and then the viewfinder snaps to it. Got the idea right here from a review on B&H. So far it works great. I will definitely recommend the combo.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from All componenets needed may not be included Four stars out of five because of the manufactures price for the accessory, the Kinotehnik 37mm Close-Up Lens Kit. Not B&H's fault as the price point is what is based on the source. Having mentioned this if you wear glasses and want to be able to actually use the Kinotehnik Lcdvf3c 3.2 Lcd Viewfinder For Canon Dslr Cameras or other items in the product line (which fit the above accessory) then you'll be shelling out an additional $43.00+. The Kinotehnik 37mm Close-Up Lens Kit is not an optional, but rather a required accessory. Once properly installed the LCDVF3C 3.2 LCD Viewfinder for Canon DSLR Cameras is an excellent choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes sure you get the right one. I ordered the one availble, which has the correct dimensions for the Canon 3.2 screen. It does not have the correct formfactor for the D800, and partially covers the buttons to the left of the LCD screen. Regrettably I had to send this one back.I nevertheless checked it out on my D800, and what I saw was very promising. Great clarity and sharpness. I will get one for the D800 as soon as it is available. I plan to use it in conjunction with the PCE lenses I have, which sometimes require meticulous focusing. The other use is of course with video. Liveview really looks great with this viewfinder. I had tried the Cyclops before but was very diappointed with that one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WORKS WITH VELLO Snap-On LCD Protector!! I owned one before for my Canon 5D Mark II and it works as advertised. But what to do if you want to use a screen protector with it? You'll love the way I did.I need to be able to use BOTH, the LCDVF and the Snap-On LCD Screen Protector (B&H item# VESPGSC5D3). I called B&H but nobody knew the answer to that. So I had the audacity to try this... Well, I tested the theory myself using my Small HD DP-4 giant viewfinder to simulate the idea since I didn't have yet the actual LCDVF in hands...Turns out that the focus was perfect so I went ahead and ordered.Result: WORKED!! The LCDVF OR ANY OTHER VIEWFINDER OF THIS NATURE has a FOCUSING tolerance of 1/2 inch DISTANCE so it won't matter if you use the LCDVF as the manual says or with things in between the LCDVF anf the camera's LCD. How to SETUP: 1-Install the Vello B&H # VESPGSC5D3 on the camera's LCD, read the instructions..2- Place the LCDVF's metal magnetic frame on the already installed Snap-On LCD Screen Protector insted of placing it directly on the camera's LCD.3- To remove the LDCVF from the camera, gently pull it out + downwards, not straight at you so you won't lift the Snap-On LCD Screen Protector because if the magnets. Note that the Snap-On LCD Screen Protector is installed at the camera;s viewfinder therefore the bottom will lift. It's just common sense...To remove everything from the camera. Remove the Snap-On LCD Screen Protector and everything is gone! All you see is the camera's bare LCD screen!I'm so glad that I don't have to place that nasty sticker from the LCDVF's metal frame directly onto my Mark III's LCD as it will be a nightmare to remove when I had to take it off to sell my 5D Mark II.So there you have it! Place the LCDVF when shooting video and remove when you are shooting stills THUS having a full LCD UV GLASS protection!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very convenient and well built I find that viewing any viewfinder with your eye actually making contact with the camera helps make at one with the camera. Helps steady the shots and of course focusing and shading from light and reflection. This viewfinder does all of this in the most simple and convenient manner. Just make sure that you put the lanyard around your neck or the viewfinder will inevitably fall off. I think this system is an improvement over models that have to be unscrewed or loosened to come off.One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the that the lack of diopter isn't a huge problem for folk who need a bit more magnification. The end of the viewfinder is treaded to accept a simple additional screw-on magnification lens. You can get a set of +1 through+4 lens for about $. Use the one that works best for yourself and forget the rest.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good product for the price This viewfinder is great for the price, but it's not wonderful. If you want an LCD and don't want to shell out a couple $- this is your best bet. I love it and will say it's become an absolute must for me when filming on my MKIII. It allows you to obtain a much more balanced image while filming - worries about fine tune focusing and exposure are all set aside when you have this to look through. The biggest downside to this product are the weak magnets. The viewfinder is easily bumped off. Mine falls ALL the time. It's durable, doesn't break when it falls... it's just not very adhesive.
