B+W 95mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter
Key Features
  • Variable 0.3-1.5 Neutral Density Filter
  • Reduce Exposure by 1-5 Stops
  • Darkens Entire Image
  • Greater Control Over Exposure Settings
The B+W 95mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter providing an exposure reduction of 1 to 5 stops. The 0.3 to 1.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is also visually demarcated with dots that represent different density values.

B+W 66-1083006 Overview

The B+W 95mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter providing an exposure reduction of 1 to 5 stops. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is also visually demarcated with dots that represent different density values.

The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is both an anti-reflection coating as well as a protective surface. It helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, it offers greater protection to the filter substrate and stays cleaner for longer than uncoated filters. The Nano coating associated with XS-Pro filters provides an additional eighth layer over the MRC, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter features a thin mount which helps to reduce the likelihood to vignetting when used with wide-angle lenses. The filter ring is made from brass for durability as well as jamming prevention.

question

I have a Sony A7S with Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS Lens and shoot video. I like the flexibility of the variable ND filter especially as I often don't have time to change filters. Is this the best for exteriors? Thanks Andrew
Asked by: andrew h.
It's that or a mattbox with ND, especially for shooting Log2 or Log3 at 1600 or 3200iso.

question

The specs for the B+W 95mm Xs-Pro ND Vario filter show that the front filter size is also 95mm. However, for all other sizes the front filter size is larger than the back side that screws on to the lens. Can someone please confirm that the front threads for the 95mm model are also 95mm as in the specs or wider like the picture suggests? Thanks.
Asked by: Patrick A.
definitely not!! the rear thread of the filter is 95mm, however the front thread of the filter is 105mm

question

Anyone having issues using lens caps and this filter? Can you share what lens cap you're using on top of this?
Asked by: Tim E.
I use the lens cap that came with the filter, and it works quiet well - it's a slip-on, but seems to stay without any issues.

question

Can someone confirm if this 95mm still allows for the Sony 28-135mm factory hood to be mounted with the filter on? Thank you!
Asked by: Alexander T.
It does not allow for the factory hood to mount - it is too big for the hood to slide over the filter.
