Vello LA-FX-CEF-A Overview

  • 1Description

Make the most of your existing collection of Canon EF/EF-S-mount glass with this Vello Lens Adapter with Aperture Control that will allow you to mount these lenses to a Fujifilm X-mount camera. Precise construction makes it easy to attach these adapted lenses to your camera and keeps it secure during use. Infinity focus is guaranteed, ensuring that you get proper functionality our of all your optics. This model features an integrated aperture diaphragm, which allows you to control exposure even on lenses where you lack communication for aperture control. Additionally, the adapter is made from a durable zinc alloy and features a matte black finish on the inside to reduce the potential for glare and reflections that can negatively impact image quality.

Although the lens will fit physically, autofocus, automatic diaphragm (AE metering), and other functions dependent on communication between camera body and lens will be disrupted by the lens adapter. You will need to focus manually, and to set exposures manually or meter in aperture priority (stop-down) mode. If the lens does not have a manual aperture collar, the aperture will be stopped down to its smallest f/stop. Focusing to infinity is retained.

This adapter enables the use of Canon EF/EF-S lenses on Fujifilm X-mount cameras, meaning you can now use your existing stable of lenses on your current camera. It is also very secure, holding the lens in place without any wobble sometimes associated with the adapting process.
Designed specifically for Canon EF/EF-S-mount lenses, this adapter features an integrated aperture diaphragm providing additional control over exposure when using these lenses on a non-native camera body.
Thanks to precise manufacturing, this adapter is guaranteed to provide infinity focus by placing the lens at the correct distance from the sensor. This allows you to make the most of your lenses and doesn't limit you from shooting distant subjects.
Made from a durable zinc alloy, this adapter will withstand many uses and won't wear or break in the way soft brass or cheap plastic would. Also, an internal matte black finish reduces reflections and glare, ensuring your images look sharp and contrasty.

    Vello LA-FX-CEF-A Reviews

Canon EF/EF-S Lens to Fujifilm X-Mount Camera Lens Adapter with Aperture Control is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for the price Good manufacturing, fair price, it feels solid and fits very well with the lenses placed, the opening ring is not very functional as it creates a very very marked vignette and the change of depth of field is barely visible. I recommend it as long as the aperture ring is not a priority.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really great adapter for manual control This is a really well-made piece of equipment. You lose autofocus which is a bummer, but it works seamlessly using Canon lenses on my Fuji Camera. It is heavy duty and fits very nicely. The aperture control didn't have has much control as I hoped, but it did a good job.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mounting lens, yes. Iris, meh. I recently picked up a Fuji X-T3. Stellar camera. Behaves much more like my eyes do than my previous Canon 6D does.  I still have a bunch of great Canon L series lenses and regular EF primes though. Picked up this adapter, as the Fuji doesnt have facility to control iris. Most Fuji lenses having an iris ring.  The mount is solid and works well at putting my Canon glass on my Fuji body. No wiggle or stay light that I detect.  There are some issues though.  The first one I tried in the store, did not even fit the lens. The B&H sales guy and I came to the conclusion that Vello screwed up at the factory and put the wrong adapter in the box.  The second one did fit, very tight and secure. Really no difference in lens play than an EF lens would have mounted to an EOS body.  Which freaked me out because there are NO instructions on how to remove the adapter! Apparently the little silver stud moves back and forth, away from the lens, toward the body to release the lens. It doesnt push in, pull out, or move sideways. Without any instructions or legends on the body of the adapter, there is no way to know this! A little arrow with an icon of an opened lock would do wonders.  My biggest disappointment is the iris. Though I guess this is also an education for me. Plainly, the iris being behind the lens, it is not in the optimal place. Its essentially occupying the space in the light path that would be taken up by the mirror assembly in a Canon DSLR. So when you try to crank down the aperture to sharpen up, instead you get a lot of vignetting. Basically with all of my lenses I only get a usable range of the first quarter or third of travel. The rest is just vignetting. May be better on EF-S lenses? Might be better on a shorter/shallower lens?  Probably not, as Canon is most likely designing all their stuff so that the image circle just fits on the flappy mirror. And is just an inch or so off of the focal plane at that distance. The ideal spot being an inch or two farther forward from the sensor, where the image circle is much narrower. Look up one of those cross section diagrams of a DSLR and you will see what I mean.  I wont return, as it is useful when using my Fuji for video. But for straight photography I am going to just need to get more X mount lenses.
