Vello LA-CEF-CFD overview

  • 1Description

Make the most of your existing collection of Canon FD-mount glass with this Vello Lens Adapter that will allow you to mount these lenses to a Canon EF/EF-S-mount camera. Precise construction makes it easy to attach these adapted lenses to your camera and keeps it secure during use. Infinity focus is guaranteed, ensuring that you get proper functionality our of all your optics. In order to achieve infinity focus, an optical glass element is used, which features a coating to minimize the chance for glare and reflections. Additionally, the adapter is made from a durable zinc alloy and features a matte black finish on the inside to reduce the potential for glare and reflections that can negatively impact image quality.

Although the lens will fit physically, autofocus, automatic diaphragm (AE metering), and other functions dependent on communication between camera body and lens will be disrupted by the lens adapter. You will need to focus manually, and to set exposures manually or meter in aperture priority (stop-down) mode. If the lens does not have a manual aperture collar, the aperture will be stopped down to its smallest f/stop. Focusing to infinity is retained.

This adapter enables the use of Canon FD lenses on Canon EF/EF-S-mount cameras, meaning you can now use your existing stable of lenses on your current camera. It is also very secure, holding the lens in place without any wobble sometimes associated with the adapting process.
Thanks to precise manufacturing, this adapter is guaranteed to provide infinity focus by placing the lens at the correct distance from the sensor. This allows you to make the most of your lenses and doesn't limit you from shooting distant subjects.
Made from a durable zinc alloy, this adapter will withstand many uses and won't wear or break in the way soft brass or cheap plastic would. Also, an internal matte black finish reduces reflections and glare, ensuring your images look sharp and contrasty.

    Vello LA-CEF-CFD reviews

Canon FD Lens to Canon EF/EF-S-Mount Camera Lens Adapter is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 140.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Vello lens adapter- Canon FD to EOS mount. I picked up a Vello Adapter, (LINK), for using older Canon lenses on my Canon digital camera with it's EOS mount. This adapter has a corrector lens that lengthens the focal length of an FD lens, allowing it to focus to infinity. That corrector lens adds coma, astigmatism, and spherical abberations to any Canon lens, greatly reducing it's sharpness. I have included some test pictures that I took, using a 50mm, F1.4 FD lens. This thing should be called the Vello Mr. Magoo Adapter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lens Mount Adapter = great! I love this adapter. I had an Canon AE-1 with every imaginable lens and filter. Then came the digital age and my lenses were no longer any good until I heard about B&H. I spoke with a very knowledgeable young man. I received my adapter and now my old lenses are very usable and I don't have to spend hundreds/thousands of dollars replacing them. I am now a very happy older person. Thank you B&H. I still have to work on lighting, focusing, etc. with this adapter but what a new challenge to have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Canon FD Lens to Canon EOS Vello Lens Mount Adapter. I was actually looking for something else when I came across this item and I realized that I had a couple of old lenses from my Canon FTB I bought in 1972 sitting in a drawer in the basement. One is a Canon 50mm f1.4 the other a Canon 135mm f2.5. It took some adjustment not having the automatic functions on the lenses I use today since the auto focus and aperture have to be set manually. Setting the aperture really is not that difficult because when you open and close it looking thru the viewfinder gets lighter and darker respectively. The camera which I used for these pics is a Canon 5D III. The shutter speed still worked automatically when I shot in the auto mode but I didn't get the best results so I switched it into manual. Overall the Vello Lens Mount Adapter worked extremely well as long as you mount it to your camera correctly. Make sure you attach the adapter to lens first! Then attach lens to the camera. My lenses had been sitting in a drawer for 30 years make sure spring that controls the aperture is functioning correctly. I am pleased the results of the pics I took, I included some below that are not modified except changed from raw to jpg and resized.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mount is perfect! The Mount is sturdy when pulled out of the box and is obviously made to be compatible to EOS bodies so it worked perfectly on my T5i. I used a variety of lenses from primes to telescopic and they all worked just like any other lens. One side of the adapter is metal which connects to the FD lens while the plastic part is connected to the body. I know people find that plastic mounts aren't that good but I personally don't mind it. I love how it locks the lenses as well so they dont fall off. This adapter is one the best things I own in my camera bag and I don't see me having to buy another one in the future because this thing is sturdy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not Sure Yet I had some trouble getting several of my lenses to attach to this convertor. it fits on my 5d just fine, its just the FD lenses that have the outer ring that turns to attach to the camera that have trouble getting attached to the adapter. The FD lenses that have the lock button don't have too much of a problem getting on to the thing. Please take these things into consideration before purchasing this product. Aside from that, only my 500mm reflex lens shows a real issue with the cropping and what not.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lens adapter fiasco Due to my own inexperience I had some problems using the adapter ring. I was on the assumption I was using a Canon lens but it was actually a DeJUR lens, a company apparently no longer in business based in Thailand. oops! The ring amount to the lens okay but it was impossible to remove it from the lens. I called B and H and they were the most knowledgeable, friendly, generous people I have dealt with in a long time. These guys rock! They go out of their way to help without being the least bit Condon sending. I highly recommend them

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Smart Investment The advent of autofocus left me a full stable of Canon FD lenses. After discovering this lens mount adapter, I thought the adapter would be a good way to make use of the FD mount lenses. The adapter performs better than I expected. I haven't compared the images from the FD lenses, plus adapter, with similar focal length lenses in the EF mount, but I am well satisfied with the results I have gotten. For not much money you can have a lot of fun and broaden the selection of lenses for your EOS camera.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Performance Matches Price The good news is that when used in conjunction with an EOS 5D and a Vivitar Series 1 100-500 mm FD zoom, the mechanical coupling was good and everything worked as expected. At 500mm on the zoom, very significant vignetting occurs - one has to use only a circular section of what is observed in the viewfinder assuming the edges of the circle just touch the top and bottom of the frame. Image quality with the above set up was, well, let's be polite poor. Very soft at maximum aperture (nominal f/8 on the 100-500 zoom). So if I wanted some quality pics this is not an adapter I would use. However, I purchased it solely in order to get some almost full frame images of the 8/21/17 solar eclipse and for that purpose it sufficed.
