Hoodman's Hoodeye Eyecup for Nikon Square Eyepiece Models will help block out light when looking through your camera's viewfinder . From its over-sized design, which seals out ambient light, to its rotating nature that accommodates right or left eyed shooters, this eyecup ensures that the Nikon square eyepiece shooter can get their shot with ease. Hoodeye Eyecup for Nikon Square Eyepiece Models is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 137.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works, but... Works as advertised, but you cannot use the Nikon screen protector when then HoodEye is in place. The HoodEye has a lip that snaps over a ridge on the camera body to hold it firmly in place, but that's also the same ridge that is used by the screen protector. So, it's one or the other. The stock Nikon eye cup does not have this lip and stays in place fine, but I suppose Hoodman decided the HoodEye needed a more secure attachment due to its size. It's possible one could trim off the lip, but I'm not going to take the risk just to experiment so I'll be returning the HoodEye.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cup your eye I think it is an improvement over Nikon eyepiece. Fits eye better and seals out light better. It is a little hard to install. I bought this item while visiting New York on vacation. I tried installing before leaving store and thought I was going to break it. Took it to a tech and he could not install. Took back to salesman and he had a hard time. He thought maybe it was wrong eyepiece but verified it was correct. He finally got it on forcing it. To me it did not go on all the way but looked ok. I finally got it to slide on all the way until it snapped in place. Just letting you know you will think you are going to break it getting it on. Once it is on.... it's probably not meant to come off.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bought for Nikon D5300 I bought this for my Nikon D5300. It does fit the eyepiece correctly but the hard plastic mounting piece part of the eyecup covers the top edge of the tilt screen preventing you from opening it without removing the eyecup. I thought this might be a problem but I had hoped it would just be the flexible rubber part of the eye cup that would interfere with flipping out the viewer and that I would be able to bend the rubber part out of the way, but you can't. I'm keeping it for when I'm outside in really bright light but it will not stay on my camera all the time like I had hoped.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy without problems cited by some Maybe I have a newer model (HEYENSG) or it's because I have a D80, but it was dead simple to install. Tilt the top a tad toward front of camera, push down and bottom piece clicks in solid. It doesn't interfere with the plastic protector on the back LCD and with the slightest tilt of camera you can see entire LCD. Unlike several other eyecups I've tried, this one doesn't come off in pulling camera in and out of my bag. My glasses don't get scratched and the larger cup does a good job of blocking most of the sidelight you get with regular eye pieces. It's not rocket science but it solves my problem, so what's not to like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HoodEye Eyecup is awesome! After losing my eyecups for my d60 and d5000, I was looking for alternatives. I didn't want to get the Nikon brand as I already knew how easily it can detach and get lost. After recommendation from NAPP and a friend, I decided to give this a try. I LOVE IT! I live in FL and often shoot in extremely hot conditions. It keeps my face off of the LCD and I have no problems seeing my entire image in the eyecup. It took a bit to attach it to the camera but works great. One thing I can say is that I am unable to close my LCD now without removing the Eyecup, so, I just don't close it. It blocks light very well and is extremely comfortable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from best eyepiece I was looking for a Nikon D5300 I read the reviews of this eyepiece for the Nikon mount, others said it interfered with the opening of the screen. I still ordered it, because I really wanted this style eye cup for my Nikon D5300. The eyepiece is tight to mount it on the camera. I did push it all the way in to hear the 'click'. The eyepiece is in the way of the screen. I inserted a knife into the bottom edge of the eyepiece to push it back up somewhat, so it is not all the way secured. I can still see thru the viewfinder, and if I want to use the screen folded out, I can slide off the eyepiece. For me, it is worth the trouble, I love the eyepiece, it really makes a difference to keep the light out when doing a manual focus on Macro shots. Pliable rubber, quality feel.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cuts off corners This was used on a Nikon D7000, the eye cup installed easily with a very solid click. The eye cup itself was very comfortable and sealed out light very well while preventing you from having to smash your nose against the LCD. However the opening of the eye cup is too small and it cuts of the corners of the viewfinder! This is never warned about in the product description and is directly contrary to the stated purpose of the eye cup to improve viewfinder optics Buyer beware the corners of your viewfinder will be cut off.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Easier Said Than Done It does a good job sealing the gap between my eye and the camera eye piece, locking out any extraneous light. I think it performs in this function much better than the standard Nikon rubber eyepiece. In my use of it I have a Nikon diopter adjustment element mounted on the eyepiece in front of it, and it all works together. It does not mount or dismount as easily as implied in Hoodman's video. I have to apply much more force than I anticipated from viewing the video. (The upside being, this device will not be slipping off the camera.) It also slightly overhangs the LCD clear cover, so that you cannot remove the cover when the Hoodman is in place. At this point in my use this has not been a problem, as I rarely want to remove the LCD cover.
