Tiffen 49mm Circular Polarizer Filters - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

Tiffen Circular Polarizer Overview

Tiffen 49mm Circular Polarizer Filters - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polarizer is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.

If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a #25 Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm.

Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarizing filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing color saturation.

This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance
Can dramatically enhance a blue sky and make the clouds more prominent
Used best at right angle to the sun
Effective with cameras that use beam splitters in the path of the TTL light meter and with AF cameras

So far it seems like it's working pretty well! Solidly made at the very least but we'll find out!

Doesn't seem to do anything

I've used circular polarizing filters before. I've seen the impact of rotating the filter element. This one doesn't seem to have any influence at all.

Which filter should I get for the Sony G Master lens 50 mm?
Asked by: Cris
If you're talking about the 50mm f/1.2 then you'll need a 72mm width for filters. As far as brand goes that's up to you. Part of it is depending on what you want to spend. Good brands to look into are PolarPro, Hoya, B+W, and NiSi. I would also recommend sticking with one brand once you choose.

I bought two of these filters at the same time. One is 7.5mm thick, the other 9mm thick. The font size on the 7.5mm is much smaller. I suspect one might be a fake, as I got two fakes from amazon today. Can someone verify the correct thickness of these? The specs say 5mm thick, which neither is.
Asked by: Scott
Manufacturing specifications change over time, you may have gotten filters from two different production batches. The current production specification is 7.5mm thick. As you also contacted Tiffen directly by email with photos we do not believe your filters to be fake.

question

Can I use this filter on Sony HX300? Is it threaded?
Asked by: Norm R.
It is threaded and should fit any 55 mm lense. I'm not familiar with the Sony hx300 but generally the filter fits lenses. Not nessisarily fixed cameras that doesn't have interchangeable lenses

Somewhere on your lens there should be a circle with a slash through it followed by two digits and “mm”. This is the size in millimeters of the end of the lens that accepts filters, etc.
